Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc

Post by Mandrake »

The Volkswagen ID R all electric racing car that won pikes peak overall across all classes last year driven by Romain Dumas has just beaten the previous electric car record at Nurburgring by a whopping 40 seconds to give it the second best time ever for Nurburgring across all types of cars. Only beaten by the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO Le mans prototype car:

Watching from the cockpit view around some of the corners is almost dizzying its so fast.

Just watched ^^^^ and at the end up comes a set of other youtube vids displayed.

One of which I watched with interest and have clagged a link to on the "unusual/interesting engines thread.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=61099&p=611856#p611856

Not sure how "youtube" selects what to display as clicking options once an embedded video is finished. Its dynamic...changed now from what its was on my first viewing...that had at least 2 "Tesla" options. :-D
Wonder if it is tailored to the viewer, or the original poster.

If you’re logged into YouTube/Google it’s recommendations based on your subscriptions and previous viewing history. Just like the list of videos on the right sidebar on the full YouTube page.

When you look at the sheer volume of ICE vehicles littering all the space available at the outskirts of town "autoparcs" those dealers have a lot of stuff to shift.

I had a good wander around the one's just off the M6 north of Carlisle...walking the dog...didn't see a single 100% all electric car on offer, (the KIA spotted last month had gone!) although Toyota did have a row of their "hybrids" with their little blue Toyota badges facing the front.

If Joe and Josephine Public are looking to change their car in Carlisle, the friendly sales staff at the dealers aren't going to be pushing sales of non-existant electric offerings, or long delay order electric offerings, but bending over backwards to get rid of some of the normal stock on their lots!

Long way to go if the evidence of Kingtown Industrial Estate is anything to go by.

Came across this from over the pond.
It is "Lectric Leopard"

Image

A company called US Electracar Corporation in Massachusetts imported vehicles without drivetrains and turned them into battery-powered cars and they called them the Lectric Leopard. Still a few about including that "barn-find"

Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions

What do you get when you cross an Avanti with a Leaf? Brace yourselves
Spoiler: show
https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1130036
Underneath the classy (sarcasm emoticon) fibre glass exterior, is the full running gear and gubbins of a donor 2013 leaf. $25,000 plus $1500 shipping, and it could be on your drive and causing a stir every time you take it out in public!

I shoved this up on the Electric Cars-What's available? thread

Decent article by Autocar on the current crop and coming EV's but I did comment
No bargain basement Dacia on the list yet for the masses, and from a quick scan, I reckon currently MG is probably trying the hardest, to deliver EV's at a decent price even if that is still over £20K.

Electric cars VW

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

VW as well as being the leading traditional manufacturer to shift strategy fully behind new electric vehicles, are also backing conversions.

VW to start offering electric conversion of classic Beetles, unveils first prototype

This thread has traditionally mopped up all things electric, but as the field has expanded from the Leaf and the Zoe and a touch of TESLA, I started the Electric Cars-Whats available? thread to mop up the rapidly expanding offerings from virtually all manufacturers, and although the FCF to my knowledge has only a couple of "early adopters" many are likely to follow.

For me participation is key, and the two threads have crossover all the time.

I was wondering what the lastest on conversions was so I did a little query.

There are plenty "classic" conversions around from Mini's to MGB's to Jaguar E-types Porsches Vw Beetles all eye-wateringly expensive.

Did discover this though which caught my interest.....French as well so bang on topic for the forum!
