C5 oil leak

The problems just keep on coming with my MK3 C5 tourer...

I just noticed a small (8cm) patch of oil on the drive. Had a look under the car and part of the engine is covered in oil.

A closer inspection with my phone reveals that one of the bolts is missing from it!

Any ideas what part this would be, or perhaps is there a common flaw which causes a leak here?

Not a job I'll try to tackle myself, I'll take it to the mechanic next week and monitor oil levels until then. I'm just curious about what it could be.

Impossible to say with that much oil. First job is to clean the oil off. The oil obviously starts from higher up the block. What can you see with a torch from above? It could be from absolutely anywhere.

It's very difficult to tell from the pictures - it could be the sump seal

But it really needs to be on a lift for a proper investigation - especially as oil could be dripping down from above.
