C4 Picasso mk2 semi auto gear not selecting

Post by Rosanbo »

C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi 2013 model mk 2 it is auto or semi auto...it has a lever on the steering wheel and two paddles + and - on the steering wheel.
The lever positions are R, N, A, M
in M you can use the paddles.

I moved the car reversed into a space. Then turned it off. When I turned it back on the car started because the lever was in N position.
after starting moving the lever to other positions the screen showed the gear remained in N
The lever moved to A or R or M but the screen showed the gear remaining in N
And therefore the car would not move.

I checked all the doors were closed they were.
I turned it off and restarted twice ..problem remained

Finally I turned it off and I think I put the lever into R position then I pressed start with foot on brake pedal. I beleive then I saw the screen show the N jumped to the R position and it said "put it in N to start" so I moved it back to N and started it...and then the lever worked as normal. And it has not done it again since.

Any ideas why this happened ...heard of this before?

Thank you

If there's no P position then it is a semi auto EGS box. The selector seems to be a weak point, and several people have had to replace them for refusal to tell the computer the right thing (at least on Mk1s anyway). I wonder if it is because of the position of the lever, which causes drivers to apply a sideways force as they are using it.

Do you have a fault code? I know that there are descriptions of this happening under some conditions, but a fault code will help.

I don't have a Lexia clone . so I don't know if there is a fault code.

This happened 5 days ago and has not re-occured.

I wonder if people have managed to take apart the lever and clean the contacts or some other bodge repair ?

It's quite possible there is no fault code stored - if the brain is not getting the 'correct' message from the selector switch, then it will just do what ever it thinks it is getting. Fault code will only be set if it gets no message at all, or two messages at once!

Hmm, not all that cheap... Appears to be a different part number from the MK1 - you might be able to get one from a breakers. How many miles has yours done?

I was checking the technical information regarding this issue and i noticed there is a warning coming up against your VIN:

"An after-sales campaign must be carried out on this vehicle. Advise your client to make an appointment with their authorised dealer as soon as possible"

I strongly suggest you contact your nearest main dealer and advise them of the recall notification (supply them with your VIN) and they will advise you on what needs doing. These are free of charge, but I cannot tell you what it is.

58,000 miles

Thanks for the recall advice.

Have you got the diagrams for removing the gear lever?

If I remember correctly, what happened is normal. If you switch off with the car in gear and then move to N before starting, the car will not start. You have to go back, as you did, to the switch-off position ie in the same gear as you were to reset.
I’m sure it’s all in the handbook.
