When is the petrol emissions scandal going to break!

Daimler are going to have to do a VW. Apologise/compensate the customers/pay the fines/move with the tide/ merge with VW/make a video/come up with a new corporate slogan.
VW did....

Its is not only The Germans who are fiddling their emissions

Southern Water, as reported on the BBC this morning, have also been faking their waste water emissions.....
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48755329
"Southern Water has been hit with a record £126m punishment for spills of wastewater into the environment from its sewage plants and for deliberately misreporting its performance.

"Ofwat also found that the company manipulated its wastewater sampling process, which meant that it misreported information about the performance of a number of sewage treatment sites."

Southern Water have an impressive back catalogue of failings. It makes you wonder what a water company actually has to do to lose its license

I have some sympathy with the privatised water companies when I remember what a shambles the whole country was in water wise when they took over.

Over hundred year old rusted out iron water mains everywhere, sewage discharged directly onto beaches, large areas of the rural community never connected, polluted drinking water, standpipes on the streets every time the summer got a bit warm and the reservoirs dried up.

I'm paying less for my annual water supply now than I was in 1988, admittedly a low user and now on a meter instead of the 'guess' they used to make linked to the property's rateable value.

And of course OFWAT didn't exist in the pre privatisation days.

I struggle to have any sympathy for Southern Water. When you take the time to look into what they deliberately took the decisions to do - sympathy doesn't play a part in it :(

That of course has been dealt with by huge fines by OFWAT and may yet come before the criminal courts if any individual can be found to be blameworthy.
