Does this sensor exist on my x7?

Post by petef »

In an attempt to avoid what might become the need to replace the turbo on my 2009 138 2litre hdi, I have replaced the turbo charger pressure regulation electrovalve (part no 1618X2) and also the boost pressure sensor (part 1920CZ). Ignoring the fact that I managed to break the second sensor - it is a very tight fit in the hole in the manifold and a very thin piece of plastic where it goes in - I am now trying to find out whether there is another sensor on the turbo. General information suggests that there is a turbo charger position sensor - several part numbers including 0375K1 - but my Citroen Service database shows nothing on the turbo for my car. Am I missing something, or am I looking for something that isn't there?
I have documented the symptoms before - car goes into limp mode on prolonged severe acceleration uphill, and Lexia indicates boost pressure too high. Power returns on restart and fault can be cleared and eml light switched off in Lexia. Probably the vanes in the turbo are sticking, but for a few quid I wanted to try everything else first.........

I don't have your VIN Pete - but am assuming this is the DW10BTED4 engine... but yes, it does exist:
Pete Turbo A.PNG
I have arrowed in green the Turbo Copy Position Sensor
Pete Turbo B.PNG
(8) Boost pressure waste gate (WASTGATE).
(16) Turbo position copy sensor.

The DW10BTED4 engine is turbocharged by a variable geometry turbocharger controlled by the engine management ECU by means of a proportional electrovalve. The turbo position copy sensor consists of a potentiometer located on the turbo control capsule. It indicates accurately the exact position of the fins.

Copy sensor pin allocation:
Terminal 1: Earth
Terminal 2: +5 volts supply
Terminal 3: Copy information on turbo position

Check the filter on the atmospheric port of the boost control valve. If this is blocked it will cause over-boost faults due to the valve not being able to control the waste-gate effectively.

Thanks Marc. Do you have the part number please?

Just cleaned the filter on solenoid valve. Seemed ok though.

Did you try blowing through the filter? On the THP engine, which uses a similar valve, (don't know if the filter is the same), it is not the foam filter that is the problem, it is the rubber casing that restricts the air flow.

Part number: 0375P0 - Control Capsule Turbo Kit - but no longer available from Citroen!

Search 'Citroen 0375P0' and you will get some results for the sensor part if not the capsule.

Thanks for this Marc - the part number still doesn't show on my Citroen Service though. Looks like a pig to get at to replace it. Definitely garage job

Managed to get the foam filter head off the solenoid valve intake and blew through it ok. Sits closely underneath the engine cover with no clearance and wondered if this might impede the flow.

You're looking in the wrong section Pete - go to TURBOCHARGING, then select the last option: TURBO CHARGER OIL RETURN HOSE. That's where it is shown.

Yes, found that section Marc - shows all the turbo and fittings except the sensor and capsule in the parts listing......must be a very old or incomplete version. Not to worry - I know the answer now.
Many thanks yet again...

I don't believe that a fault in the turbocharger or geometry control is likely to cause that fault, as the turbo pressure is primarily controlled by the waste-gate and associated control system. It seems to me that your problem is likely to be something that is preventing the waste-gate from opening as quickly as the ECU would like.
