Citroen ZX 1.9D crankshaft pulley and power steering pump

Post by dannyboy84 »

Hi all

So now have replaced alternator and idler tensioner. Everything seems to be giving up the ghost one after another?!

Power steering pump is making a right grumbling sound when I listen with a screwdriver? Is it bearings or the pump on the way out? Easy to get hold of and reasonable price?

Also while down there with engine running the crankshaft pulley seems to have slight wobble!?

Looked on here and there seems to be mentioned some rubber seal or something?!

Any ideas guys? Will a new pulley solve it?

Done over 60,000 miles of trouble free motoring and it only cost me £190 and it's gone through every MOT, so it's a good solid car.

It's a Citroen ZX estate 1.9D XUD9. No rot and it's getting sentimental now, a part of the family 😁

Any would be appreciated as normal

Many thanks

Regards

Danny

Forgot to mention it's a 1997 N2 variant if that means anything or can help?

Thanks

If it's a damper pulley you'll see a rubber cushion in between the outer diameter (where the belts sits) and the inner ( where the bolt is) If it is, mark a line in white paint from the outside edge to the bolt head. Start the engine and see if it's still a line. If it's become 2 lines it's knackered. If it's a solid pulley, the woodruff key may not have been correctly located (sitting at a slight angle in the keyway) last time the cam belt was changed and over time it's vibrated loose and worn the pulley. The latter can be had from the tat yard for pennies, the former a little more expensive and don't fit a 2nd hand or cheap one.

Thanks mate, yes I can see the rubber between now and it looks cracked in places, will try the paint lines on it.

Where is best to get a new pulley and bolt from, has anyone got any suggestions please?

Also the power steering pump too or can these be repaired?

Thanks

Thanks

I contacted dealers and they said part number for pulley is 515G3 which comes up with a Febi Bilstein one, but on my pulley I have number C15431 which is different?

Also when I put marks on pulley do I just let it idle a few minutes or take for a drive?

Thanks

If it's really knackered it will show up as soon as you start it. If it's wobbling a bit, change it anyway. Stick your VIN on here and the part number will magically appear (once Marc reads it :-D ).

Thanks for that

My VIN number is

VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

The power steering pump is the 135mm pulley diameter but I'm contacting pump specialist for this in case it's a simple fix for them.

Can get the bolt and washer for the crankshaft pulley just having trouble with the pulley itself

Thanks again

Right - Pulley:- Correct part number is 0515G3 (you were out a zero), which is no longer available from Citroen.
Citroen state against the part DIA 156X109-6V-EP 44

So you need one that is 156mm Outer Diameter, 44mm Width, and with 6 ribs.

There are several options coming up here, but when choosing one, make sure at least the measurements are the same as the above.

Thanks Marc that's a great help

I'm going to have a look into the power steering pump as the fluid is black in the reservoir, contacted power steering specialist and they said may be a blockage somewhere or just needs flushing out then check pump again after this and make sure the fluid is flowing freely through the system. If the pump is knackered they will send a courier to collect and return after remanufacturing for me for £85 all in, which I didn't think was too bad!?
Anyone had similar black power steering fluid?

I'm going to do the cambelt at the same time as I've done 60,000 on it now!!

Hi folks,

Got power steering pump sorted and also found that the clutch release bearing was making a right racket so have had clutch kit replaced sweet as a nut!!

I am doing the timing belt this next week, I have done it before with the kind help from people on here, only difference is I have been sent a Dayco belt kit not a Gates. Are they as good as Gates or should I exchange for Gates?

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Forgot to mention Marc that I have found the right crankshaft pulley, only difference one comes with new bolt and other doesn't. Was wanting to know if I should use a bolt from dealers as they still stock them. The pulley is by FEBI BILSTEIN is this a good part to go with?

Thanks again

Dayco, never used one but I've never heard any horrible stories either. I've always fitted Contitech or Gates. Pulley, Febi are fine (unless someone else has had a different experience). Preferably use a new bolt. They usually come with a threadlock coating. If you do buy a bolt, get one from a dealers (or known brand for this purpose) you want to keep the bolt's specifications correct for the job.
Good luck

I know that Gates belts are used by PSA as original equipment. It was a Gates belt in my recent timing belt kit.
