What's the tyre wall regidious value? , A softer wall will help give a softer ride.
Not sure the tyres you have but, for my car I can get either 97 or 101 tyres, the lower the value the softer.
But too soft and they won't support the vehicle weight especially when going around corners, typical result is the outer edges going bald.

Is softness indicated by the load index number on the tyre, 87,91 etc?

Yes, the higher the load rating the stronger or less flexible side wall.

Hi, I changed the gear oil for 75W-80 GL4 bought from a Peugeot dealers. There was less than a liter of oil in the gearbox so they synchromesh may be damaged, Clutch and pedal seems fine. It was a cheap car and I'm used to driving it now. I hope to have it for another year then replace it with a 308. I only paid €500 for the car hard to justify spending a lot more on it

I have quite well researched this tyre problem and tyres that are quieter usually give a softer ride but usually wear more rapidly, for me that's worth the better ride. I have Falken ZE 310, 195/65/15s on my 406. Nexen are also good for a softer ride but wear less well than the Falken.

The size and profile also makes a considerable difference, I have one 406 with 15" 65 tyres and the other has 205/16/ 55 and the difference is very noticeable, I am going to change them for 15" wheels. My Merc also has 205/55/16 and is even harder, I am actively looking for a set of 15" wheels as they were an option.

I drove hydropnumatic Citroen's for about 30 years so I'm sure you will appreciate my problem.

The fella at the garage recons its the gear linkages and right enough it is a common issue with 207's. When I bought the car in January I didnt notice the sticky gear change between 1-2 but its there now. I notice also that the gear stick in neutral just stays in the gear its in and needs more help than it should to move between all the othe gears. Both static and underway.

The transmission oil is also a know issue as you say. Its got to be Esso Gearbox oil 75/80 BV or Total transmission BV 75w80 nothing else will do. Apparently there is a known bearing seal leak in the gearbox which can cause it to leak. I notice the clutch pedal is a bit tight and queaky. How would I go about checking or setting the clutch pedal height?
