Car/bike Names what are the best?

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Slightly amended the title just because BSA came up with some terrific names for their machines.

..and today hit the jackpot

A Thunderbolt and a Lightning standing next to each other outside the co-op!

No camera to record the event

Not in the premier league of motorcycle best names, like the Velocette Venom, BSA Thunderbolt etc but not bad.

The Royal Enfield Constellation featured recently on "Bangers and Cash" on UKTV.

Then there was the Douglas Dragonfly the last Douglas. I think, made in Bristol.

Car/bike Names what are the best?

Douglas Dragonfly Gibbo......not that successful a machine, maybe suggests wafting around the countryside in a leisurely manner while the spirit of the age was moving towards hurling from cafe to cafe at the greatest possible speed. Maybe the Douglas Dominator or some other less placid name might have sold more! :-D

Its tag line according to wiki to stress its riding comfort was "equal to a car's" which if that is the feature you are going for the "Dragonfly" name maybe conjures up that sort of feeling.

The Avenger has also appeared in the "Limited Edition" thread with its "sunshine" and "top hat" offerings.

I did manage to photograph a "Tiger" first hand, made a little more special by being in an "upstairs" showroom.
Its next to another rootes-group offering. Now if that was A Sunbeam Stilletto which it probably isn't that would be a more than worthy entry to the FCF selection of best car/bike names. Can't beat a bit of aliteration.

I remember owning a Messerschmitt KR200 and being chased down the A41 from Aylesbury to Tring by a Triumph Spitfire!
I lost!!
However it reminds me of the first aggresive motoring Tiger on the road:

I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
