Hello from Milton Keynes

Post by sjgillett »

Hi all,

Just joined the forum as I'm viewing a 2009 Citroen Dispatch Campervan on Saturday with the 1.6hdi engine.

Any thoughts on things to check other than the usual second hand checks?

Cheers

Hello, and :welc: to the Forum.

One thing to DEFINITELY check is that she has been properly serviced at the correct service intervals (or, ideally, more often). One of the PSA 1.6HDi engines had a couple of design flaws that meant it was not possible to completely drain the oil during a service (the sump plug is recessed into the sump!), and this meant that, over time, sludge could build up. This sludge could then get pulled into the turbocharger oil pickup and block it, which meant the turbocharger got starved of oil and died.

Thanks, I've checked with the owner and the camper has been serviced annually at the MOT so fingers crossed it should be OK.

I had a Peugeot Partner van with a 1.6HDi engine when I was with a different employer. When she was serviced the mechanic used to jack up the nearside front wheel as high as possible to get as much oil as he could from out of the sump. That wheel was easily 6" off the ground, and probably a lot more.
