Indeed! I think PSA can safely deny that one as they hadn't taken them over at that time.

Hello all,

Does anyone know if the DS7 has an auto lock feature? i.e. you stop/exit the car, close the door(s), walk away and it locks itself after a few seconds of not detecting the remote key sensor. Renault has this function.

Effectively, what happens if a driver were to forget at some point to press the remote lock on exit from the car?

Would be grateful for any assistance/views.

Yes that has been a standard feature of the system since inception.

Thanks for your response. Picked up a DS7 the other day, but auto lock doesn't happen.

I've looked everywhere, including the electronic manual, which makes no direct reference to this. The dealer said he wasn't aware of the feature.

Is there a setting I need to be aware of? If so, where?

Many thanks

It will be dependent up on the distance from the parameter of the vehicle you go. As soon as you enter the activation zone it will unlock again (once the door handle is touched in the right place). How have you tested it and from what distance from the vehicle?

I've assumed of course that you have actually locked the vehicle first?

So pressing the designated area on one of the door locks will lock it and another press will deadlock it within 5 seconds (or on the tailgate button). Then, if you accidentally operated the remote control unlocking button - and no entry has occurred after 30 seconds it will re-lock the vehicle.

You have to lock the vehicle first - so in other words, you can't stop the vehicle, take the fob with you, close the doors and walk away and expect the car to lock - you must have put you hand on the door lock button first before you walk away.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I tested it from about 40 metres away.

My 2015 Renault allows you to walk away from your car and it locks automatically without pressing the key fob. I thought this would at least be standard remote locking functionality in 2019 - I guess I was wrong.

From my experience and from your response, it seems that if the driver is distracted or forgets to lock the vehicle on exit, it will remain open indefinitely thus compromising security.

Yes, personally, I do not like these systems at all - they leave a lot to be desired and you may have seen the recent documentary on these vehicle systems allowing vehicles to effectively be driven away by thieves. They use a remote signal relay system that takes the transmission from the fob hanging up in your porch to the thief standing by your door, who then amplifies the signal using a device to his mate by the car holding a receiver, which then opens the car and allows it to be driven off!

Both Mercedes and BMW were slated - but it is my understanding they have now modified the fobs to power off and stop transmitting after a period of inactivity (motion sensing). So there should be no signal being emitted (unless you live in a rural area with force 11 gales as standard)!

I'll stick with my key and remote locking fob as long as I can.

Yes, scary stuff. How ironic that what's orginally intended to improve security and convenience ends up making it somewhat easier for criminals.

I think DSA missed a trick here - the logic is simple: if the car is inactive for a period of time and the fob is undetected, auto lock the car. And as stated, it already exists on other French brands. If a driver ever forgets to lock the car and walks away with the fob, I suppose the only slight consolation is that it can't be driven away, but it can indeed be entered and looted.

Thanks indeed for your contributions.

A neighbour had his Range Rover stolen by this method - his keys were on a shelf close to the front door - so following Police advice we've all bought these:

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ACENTIX-Fara ... ive&sr=1-4

The pouch is very effective... I can put the key in it, walk right up to my DS7, and the doors will not open until the pouch is unsealed. I bought two, as the spare key also needs to be shielded.

A good idea for these systems. I think it’s pretty daft anyway security wise having keyless entry.
