C5 Exclusive antenna query

Post by mickthemaverick »

Hi Everyone, I am a new member on here having just purchased my 3rd C5 which is a 2001 2.2 HDi Exclusive hatchback, When I bought it I discovered the (Everything Works!!!) radio does not receive anything and the gps does not work. From memory and a read on here I was pretty convinced that the antenna was faulty so I decided to remove, clean the amp cards etc and refit. No change so I decided to replace with one from ebay. I found a likely candidate and I have purchased it with a new wand, they are still to arrive, but I noticed a difference between mine and the new one. My unit has 4 leads coming from it going to the connector holder under the roof lining which I assume to be GPS, FM/AM, Power, and a single wire which I think is a ground wire. The one I have bought does not have this, with only 3 leads, so I assume it takes the ground from the coax sleeving. Can anyone throw any light on this? :?:
Cheers in anticipation.

For a start, post you VIN up here so we know what system was originally fitted - I suspect it is a first Gen. Siemens VDO - which are no longer supported of course. But also, put up some pics of the new unit or a link to the seller so I can determine what it is you are trying to replace it with. You haven't mentioned the GSM Aerial which would also be there for some models....

Thanks for your interest Marc. The VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
The antenna I have bought on ebay was item number 264312173863 but as I have bought it I don't think it will come up.
The picture of it shows the same leads and connectors as on my one except the missing single wire. I also purchased a new antenna whip item number
352065150424 to use with it. Does that clarify it?

After you've put the number in and come up with 0 results if you then scroll down a bit and, on the left hand side, click on Show only - Sold listings you can see the original item.

Ok, so the correct aerial for your C5 is the following one:
C5 MK I Aerial.PNG
Part number: 6561H8. These are no longer available from Citroen now, of course given the age of the vehicle.

You'll find that the aerials have aerials fro FM and AM, GPS and of course the GSM for where the telephone option is fitted. As you say those ebay links no longer link to anything, so I can't tell what you have as a replacement unfortunately.

Update: In light of what Paul has said, I can now see that the aerial you have purchased is for a MK II C5. These have completely different Head Units and Telematic Units, so is not designed for the earlier model.

Is 6561H8 fitted to any other car? Could make finding a S/H one a bit easier.

No, only on the C5 MK I as far as I can see with this particular setup. I've also checked Peugeot and zilch. These units were rapidly dumped at facelift for the RT range; the RT3 being the next half decent system that you can only just about get parts for now - but the MK I early Nav systems are in reality pushing up the daisies.

Thanks very much for the effort and answer Marc, and for your input Paul. As I have ordered it I'll fit it and see what happens! My car does not have the phone option so its only the fm I am really after as the sat nav maps I have are out of date. I have a bluetooth interface for the phone which uses the fm radio to link to the speakers etc and that is the main reason for my attempt to get it functioning. I am quite happy with the CD player for entertainment so not worth changing out the head unit just to get the phone going!! I'll post up the result of the experiment in due course!! Thanks again. =D>

Re: C5 Exclusive antenna query

Well the antenna and base both arrived at lunchtime so when I got home I went out and swapped them over leaving the missing connection disconnected. I turned on the radio and "tuned" in various stations on FM and AM but sadly there is still no sound. However it was not a complete waste of time and effort as I now have a fully functioning sat nav which shows me at my home rather than near Brest as it had been doing. I went out for a quick calibration ride and it is now spot on so at least my efforts were not entirely in vain. However I now have to rethink the bluetooth interface situation to get the phone working. I really do want to keep the standard fascia so an after market stereo is not really the answer. Any suggestions would be welcome!! :P :P

Have a look at some of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Sellers-E ... /528666031

Basically they pair with your phone via bluetooth, then you tine your radio into the FM frequency (assuming this isn't affected by your issue with the radio) and then the calls are transmitted over FM - hands free and built in mic.

Have you tried just plugging in an aerial to the back of the Head Unit to test out whether it is the aerial or the head unit tuners?

That is the bluetooth unit I already have but at the moment the radio does not see the signal from it. I have just tried a half wave am antenna plugged in the head unit and still nothing on the AM band. It looks like the receiver is dead so I think I'll look for a replacement head unit and go from there. At least I can find my way home now!!

Don't count on it - those maps might be 20 years old, so you could end up driving down a runway! :-D
