Xantia 2.0 HDi will not start

Hi All

It is my 2.0Hdi in my signature that is refusing to start

Drove fine this morning to Southampton did put £30 of fuel in ( yes Diesel ) in my normal garage.
Went to start it tonight at work turned over as normal,caught as if to start, released the key then she stopped. Turned over and over as normal but not even thinking about starting. In desperation put in gear turned over on key and she started
Drove 32 miles home, no issues never missed a beat.
Got home switched off and refused to start again even by turning it over in gear.
Pushed her into drive way, checked fuses for pump relay F9 10amp all is ok.
Turned her over and after about 3 secs she started, ran for 2 or 3 secs then died.
Have removed pipes going to fuel filter and turning her over and nothing from either so guessing lift pump and as i have no primer bulb i cannot try and pull fuel through by that method.
Waiting for laptop to charge up so i can put lexia on her but gut feeling says that once she started she pulled fuel through by vacuum ( prob wrong as usual lol ) and now she is being stroppy.
Have lifted rear seat up to see if i could hear click from pump energising but to be honest could not hear anything so probably need to lift tank cover off to see but i have a work around to get to work for a few days so thought i would ask this wonderful family for advice first.
Not even sure if she has a lift pump in the tank

Pop the VIN up Colin

It will have a lift pump in the tank & they are fairly common failures.
Go underneath to the lowest point of the fuel tank & thump it with the palm of your had while someone tries to start it, If it fires up its the pump.

Wheeler thank you for that, just tried it and she fired up straight away

When I bought a new lift pump a couple of years back there was a huge discrepancy in the price, so make sure you shop around! I got mine from APD i think.

If you are keeping the car, best get a VDO or a Bosch one. Try Mr Auto or GSF and Euro with the discount codes.

Thanks for the advice, but i had a couple of beers last night and ordered one from the bay for £60 delivered, will find out tomorrow what make it is.

Lexi as for keeping the car damn right i am, the good lady wants another C5 X7 ( has her eyes on the boys 2.0 hdi ) but when we get another one i am afraid to say the C4 will be moved on even though it has been pretty much trouble free (for a Citroen) these last 3 years, its only had a new rad,aircon rad, clutch,heater blower wire bridge fix, new drivers door lock, coil pack and plugs, new battery, oh and still needs the inner steering arm ball joint changed but still who's keeping count

It arrived today, fitted in about 40 mins and all is working well.
