You won't be able to send the VIN via PM either - it will have to be emailed to Paul. If this is a hassle, I can send it to him directly within a minute if you wish.

Did you mean me? If so I haven't received anything - but that might be because Mike has been reverting the server configuration back until he has time to resolve some of the issues. I will send it on to Paul in any case as you have OK'd it.

I think we can return to forum conversation now.
Thanks Paul,

That code worked and the French map updated and completed to 2018/2019 2ed so that is a sucess!

I left the pen drive in the slot intending to update the Scandinavian map, put the code in again, did not get a choice of map and now the screen dispalys Update Maps with Loading and the white block moving but there is no map name and the transverese bar is empty.
Still nothing after 30 minutes.
What is the best way to exit?
Remove the pen drive or select an operation button?
You shouldn't have to put the code in again unless you switch the ignition off so I wait until I'm taking a longish journey. I then choose one area after another.

I've not had the problem you describe but rather than pull the stick out I would first press the Backup button (the bent arrow) to see if that stops it. Also what effect does using the up-down and left-right joystick have? Does it move a highlight to anything else? Having said that I would imagine you've switched the ignition off by now which will stop any update. Normally this would only mean that you have to start off again, input the code, etc.

What updates did you originally pay for? All of Europe, GB only or what? It may be that you previously have updated everything else.

I think I would start the process again. Input the code and then see what countries the system thinks are left to update.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

I have started the process again thanks, chose Scandinavia and that completed ok and appeared to freeze. Pressed the backup button, black screen and system restarted.
Eventually came back to the screen i had started from, so switched off, left it for some minutes and have just started the UK again.

The updates I paid for were all of Western Europe, though I really only wanted UK, France and Spain and Portugal.

To me it seems that each map area has to be chosen individually after putting the code in, it doesn't update anything automatically if the system contains anything older than data on the pen drive.

The link you sent is more up to date than the maps that I paid for and normally I have used the time taken on a long journey to update the maps, just didn't want anything to disturb the update given the problems experienced but a journey is preferable to tick over for an extended period.

Regards
Andy.

That's correct. Providing you don't switch the engine off at least you don't have to input the code again.

Absolutely. But this is exactly what your dealer will do when asked to update the maps. And the same when updating the system firmware.

Paul,
Thanks for all your help in providing up to date error free data and instructions.

The system response has now changed and the message "Please insert navigation CD" is displayed as soon as the sat nav is switched on rather than after the checking message which took a minute or two to change to the CD message.

It still displays "Loading of data base underway.." if trying to select a destination from either direct input or the directory.

Do you think that loading all the maps to overwrite the previous ones and to bring them up to date will clear these errors or is there another solution?

Thanks

Andy.
