C5 2.0L X7 2013 RT6 Sat Nav

Post by Estately »

Hi,
I do hope someone can give me some advice on the following.

After trying to upload some new maps one of them failed to complete and the following now happens:

The inbuilt RT6 eMyWay Sat Nav keeps giving a screen message “Check in progress” then “Please insert Navigation CD”. If trying to enter an address the screen appears to freeze and displays “Loading of data base underway...”. If a map is displayed the pointer does not indicate the true location.

In the hope that the Sat nav could be corrected a new Citroen supplied 2.86 B CD has been uploaded but has made no difference. (It was Already 2.86 B)

Before I try and locate the Sat nav/Radio power supply fuse and pull it to try to give the Sat nav/Radio a system reset, would anybody care to advise as to how wise this solution might be and how long to keep it powered down.

What process should be used?

The Citroen service data seems to indicate the presence of an internal Sat nav/Radio battery and I don’t want to damage it for obvious reasons.

If any progress is made I will provide updates.

T i A, hope someone can help.
Andy.
If it can happen it will.

What did you then do after the map update appeared to fail? In fact why do you think it failed?

Where did you get the map update from? Which update was it? 42028 (2019-1) is the latest one I have.

There is no separate battery unless you have an independent services module. The RT6 does not have a battery backup.

You problem stems from a failed MAP update - updating the firmware won't solve that issue. The system cannot interpret the mapping data that is causing you the issues.

You need to get a proper Map update and complete this before looking for anything else.

Paul,
The map upload for France and Scandinavia stayed on the screen "loading" and after over an hour came up with a quick message about faulty media.
All the other countries loaded in 20 to 30 minutes each. The maps came on a USB from a bloke on t'internet as I have done on C5's previously.
Marc,
Thanks, plan A was to attempt a reset by pulling the Sat nav/Radio fuse and see if the system corrected on re start. Plan B was to obtain a "proper" map.
Hopefully the new map upload will put the sytem right, but will pulling the fuse be any better than switching off the ignition and waiting until the next day.

Andy.

No - will make no difference - the RT6 has no internal Hard Drive - it uses internal flash memory - pulling the power unnecessarily is not a good thing and can cause more issues. Get another media source for the suspect map or download it again and reload the map. System resets and firmware updates will not fix media corruption on a map source - it needs to be reloaded onto the system to overwrite the corrupt or missing files. At present the database system is missing files and therefore you will have issues until the database integrity is repaired by using a non-corrupt source.

Are you paying for these? The genuine map updates are commonly available for download from the PSA servers.

And, yes it does sound like either the download onto the pen drive hasn't worked properly (not under your control) or the pen drive itself is faulty. Probably the former.

Did you find out what update it was?

Yes I am paying for the new maps, I believe that the free downlod is available for 2015 onward cars and mine is 2013. They are not delivered yet.
Is there a link for the maps commonly available from PSA?

The maps were the 2019-1 issue but of course these will be Q2? 2018 vintage as the latest available.

They came on a USB stick and the French maps failed to complete then the Scandinavian map also failed though the others uploaded and were on the system showing as updated.
The problem arose when I tried another loading of the already failed French map.

Thanks Marc,

Those are the ones that I have ordered, the Risk Areas were immediately available to download and an activation code will be made available when the maps are shipped. The shipping cost is an additional £5.83 and obviously there is no refund available once the activation code has been sent.

I think there will be a CD and a USB stick in the delivery - here's waiting.

I will let you know if it sorts itself out with those new maps.

Best Regards
Andy.

The downloads are always available FOC. It's the code you have to pay for. You should have this code (assuming it's the 42028 update you were sold) already so all you need is another pen drive - 8GB is plenty large enough.

This is the official PSA download http://psa.download.navigation.com/auto ... /42028.ZIP

Paul,
Many thanks for that, down loaded and extracted onto a newly formatted FAT32 USB 2.0 pen drive, I will try the code already given in the morning.

Wish me luck.

If your code doesn't work (and it should if the update is the same one) come back and we'll take it from there. We may have to go off forum as I'm not sure what the forum policy is for the next step.

BTW, did you use a different pen drive?

Paul,

FAT32 Formatted a different pen drive last night and this morning the car recognised it as a map update, confirming the VIN (last 9 digits) but as I think you suspected after entering the activation code, up came the message check the code with Navteq and I had to back out. Tried a couple of times.

The maps (apart from France and Scandinavia) say they are 2017/2018 2nd Edition so not sure if those are "The Latest"

Many thanks
Andy
PS 8GB seems to be old hat now, they are all 16gb (14.3available)
