Re: Citroen C5 MK3 1.6 THP 2012 Window Regulator Repair

Post by Brian C5 »

This morning I reset the BSI and carried out the procedure to the window 1 to 5 but unfortunately the fault is still there. Window goes right up then back down again half way!!

I think I will have to order a new regulator from ebay as it might be there is too much resistance with my repaired one even though I greased the cables and ensured to rubber runners on the door were lubricated.

Any futher ideas would be appreciated.

The reset will not damage anything. It is the official procedure to follow when disconnecting the battery or for reinitialising the vehicle ECUs.

IF the reset does not work, then I suspect it will be as you have said - the system is releasing the window as if the anti pinch mechanism is operational - and is therefore releasing the window down as intended. The Window ECU is detecting a strain / resistance on the motor when closing and releasing it again. So either they are not fitted correctly or it is the wrong type.

I have no idea how expensive they are on ebay/amazon etc but euro car parts are doing the complete replacement which is what i used for £65 with the discount this weekend, no hassle a simple swap over, comes with cables etc, though i did grease the cables.

Thanks I will look then up. In the past I have always used cable kits for about 10 pounds for other csts I owned. But in this case cheap is not always the best option. You live and learn.

I would just add that ECP are horrendous for parts in my experience - one of which was a window regulator kit for a Picasso we ordered for family - arrived broken and in parts - twice  Good Luck Brian!

Incidentally, you'll need the following part number as they changed these throughout the production period - this one is per your VIN:

9675898980

I believe these are Magneti Marelli ones:

A lot of other choices here including Valeo and other brands for comparison:

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I priced a Citroen main dealer one comes in at £120 including VAT complete with electric motor (which I don't need).

I will look at all the alternatives you have suggested. Many thanks for providing part numbe,r Citroen dealer won't provide one only the price for the part .

Will let you know how I get one.

Actually Brian the unit for yours is £412.46 original, but they do a cheaper version (that won't include the motor for £119.75), so I suspect it is just the regulator cables they have quoted for! I had mine done last year and it was £500 when my window wire snapped at the NCP car park exit barrier. They didn't bother with the regulator - they just put a complete new unit in including motor. It was under warranty though.

Brian - on another note - whilst checking the part numbers above, I note there is a current recall on your C5, so if you have not been in contact recently, I suggest you get in touch and have your VIN handy. Tell them you are aware that Citroen Service is asking you to get in touch. They will be able to confirm what the work is and of it has been done or not.

Any work carried out should be done free of charge - but I certainly would contact them as it could be a safety issue.

Thanks for the info when I was at the dealer they told me about the recall. Its going in on Wedneday for a new water pump. They would not tell me why. However online people are saying the original pump is plastic and the new one is metal. Poor show but at least It will not cost me anything.

I will double check the Citroen regulator for price.

Thanks again
