Odd to see the Commer looking positively modern in the company its keeping ! CA Conversion is downright ugly too, surprising really, always thought the CA kinda cute.

VW camper drivers seem to be the exception...I get the impression that if it doesn't have a VW badge on they refuse to acknowledge the presence of it on the road.

That's because they have VW's not campers - in the same way (although the exact opposite), as I've mentioned before, that Roamahomers don't acknowledge, if they even recognise, C15's.

From the producers of Project Binky (mentioned on this site a few months ago), comes "The Escargot", which although (misleadingly) not French, may be of interest to those who frequent this topic.

I quite enjoyed that (although not fully understanding their design philosophy) - so how/where do I find Pt2 et seq?

They have not done part 2 yet. Check back in a few weeks, although it is not clear how they will multi- task between that and their other project (Binky) which must still have a few months to run.

Who are you trying to kid ? By the time they get Binky on the road, private ownership of cars will have been banned :rofl2: Wars have been started, fought, and ended in less time than it's taken to put Binky together

At its simplest, there is the car designed for a nap, or maybe the odd overnighter on the road...
Peugeot 403 from the 1950's even put their "couchettes" in the brochure :-D

brochure at curbsideclassic.com

And in a clever move, it allows the front seat passenger to enjoy their couchette, while the driver remains bolt upright for a bit of overnight driving.

There are a lot of very new very expensive camper vans, sat on driveways doing nothing, most of the time.

Had a chat with the owners of this one. By no means new, not exactly concours d'elegance, but well used.

On a little tour round the country starting off from their home at Crosby nr Liverpool.

Ye gods & little fishes, have I realy been away that long? Anyway that's a "Flying Pig" i.e. a MkIV (I test drove one once it was ENORMOUS fun on my local narrow, twisty, hilly lanes!) The one before - MkIII (yes, really) (had 2 of those, at the same time) is probably the one most associated with Z Cars, but when the series started they employed the still current MkII's.
