and here is a 1964 incarnation in sound and vision. The column change when he is out on the drive seems a touch imprecise!

I wonder what happened to his collection when he died but I'd guess his son, who's mother described as a 'perpetual student' flogged them off.

If you feel a beautiful car is spoiled by the pollution and din of the original 2-stroke you could do this

I knew Len Neil, bought my first socket set off him at his Handsworth shop when I returned from national service.

Re: Two Stroke Spotting-Cars (and the odd bike)
thanks for that Neil.
And also for the fact that I saw the Spitfire Dis-Assembly & Re-Assembly Video, very impressive indeed. Nice touch for the car to show it all 'working' at the end, too.

Puxa, I noticed from your post on Zel's blog that you mentioned the Fiat S76.
Earlier today I watched this....the very same, what are the chances of that happening? Excellent little video mostly of its journey from Bristol to Goodwood, and its stopping off at a petrol station spouting its flames!
He did mention a bit of its history, and it did make an appearance at Saltburn sands up here back in 1911 and set the "flying mile" record at 116 mph. Couple of paragraphs in the spoiler for those familiar with Saltburn by the Sea
- Spoiler: show
Half wondered if it was a very very large 2-stroke but I think not.

Re: Two Stroke Spotting-Cars (and the odd bike)
strange coincidence indeed.
Such respect for him that he drove this on the road, possibly without a modern Escort vehicle, albeit with other vintage cars. A very strange sight for Motorists in the right place at the right time
...reminded of the occasion I was passed on the M4 by the Batmobile, facing the wrong way on a trailer, probably the 'Cars of the Stars' vehicle (60's one).
Do you get much in the way of Rallies up that way? I've got the HCVS Trans-Pennine in my Calendar (probably not this year), up towards you.
Wonder if he coasted into the Filling Station; partic as turning it off couldn't affect a Brake Servo it'll doubtless not have.
Also wondered what the blue car in the background is at 0:49, initially thought an Imp Californian, but too big for that; maybe a Yank

Re: Two Stroke Spotting-Cars (and the odd bike)
It is superb countryside and roads for rallys up here and various car clubs pass through and stop off regularly. The "Flying Scotsman Rally" which attracts a lot of pre-ww2 Bentleys makes a regular appearance.
I thought it was about the time of year for it to pass through Northumberland, as it usually does, but it has already happened April 5th to the 7th, but just skirted the bottom and the west over by Slaley Hall after starting out in Windermere and heading across through Alston.

Re: Two Stroke Spotting-Cars (and the odd bike)
That blue car's too big to be an Arrow Alpine/Rapier, never mind a Californian/Stiletto. From the fleeting glance, as it doesn't have a wrap round (over?) rear window - it's not a Baracuda; so best guess is, it's a Marlin.

At three minutes in on the Fiat video there's something in the background to interest Van.

Re: Two Stroke Spotting-Cars (and the odd bike)
I'm pretty sure that Beast thing came past the end of our garden on the way from Goodwood. I distinctly remember something ridiculously loud (as in - a serious amount louder than what normally turns out from Goodwood) going up the road and me saying out loud "WTF ?" .......and our cat being very unimpressed I can genuinely imagine they would have had trouble keeping to the 30mph sped limit
Sadly no longer a C5 owner

Re: Two Stroke Spotting-Cars (and the odd bike)
Horizon-widening. I have seen several imports from South Africa appearing at classic auctions recently. Classic cars over 40 years old escape various tariffs and taxes. Further afield in South America
DKW/Auto Union had a bit of a maufacturing presence in Brazil and Argentina, and there are a few classics lying around like this...
...a very pretty looking DKW 3=6 (a branding misnomer that their 3 cylinder 2-stroke was somehow equivalent to a 6 cylinder 4stroke) DKW Vemag Sedan.
