Changing timing belt on C5x7 2.0hdi 165

Post by mmatin »

Hello,

Recently I got offer from Citroen dealer for changing Timing belt set and Drive belt with Tension roller. The price is cca 737 € which is little bit expensive.
What is strange, offer includes changing of the Camshaft seal and the Crankshaft seal. I wonder is this normal procedure or that's something what is not usual.

Car is C5 2.0hdi 165 2010.

It sounds expensive to me, but I don't know what your labour rates are. In France, you would expect about 400-450€ depending on where you take it. Changing the crank and seals is a good insurance for you and for the garage, a leak later is a catastrophe ! Is he doing an oil and filter change at the same time ? Find out the price of the parts elsewhere, and then you will know how much he is charging.

Offer doesn't include oil and filter change. I have found orginal Timing belt set on ebay for 150€ with shipping. Dealer price is around 300 €, which is double. So yes, I will search and buy parts by myself and let dealer to do changing.

Do make sure you get quality parts! The timing belt is such a critical thing that can wreck your car if it goes. Citroen use 'Gates' belts - so make do make sure you are happy with any alternatives.

Marc, I'm aiming the timing belt set from the link you posted in another topic. Although belt is not Gates, description says it's genuine kit.

That's a good buy and is the correct part for the complete kit with water pump. The kit is sold by Citroen for: £220.75, so that's a £100 saving or equivalent where you are.

Good find.
