My webcam operating software is disabled and can only be turned on by the sysop.

I accept cookies in general although some are blocked and all are wiped when to browser closes, also I purge the system of any remaining dross at least once a week.
The operating systems are completely renewed every three months, everything is wiped.

I have had ransomware attempt to take over my systems but they failed miserably.
Haven't had any virus infestations since I gave Windows the boot.

Google keeps asking me if I had a good time at the hotel about a mile from home.

Luckily the wife hasn't seen the notifications.
Spoiler: show
I do only ever drive past it, honest.

If you’ve ever seen the film ‘Minority Report’, every time they go past a billboard, the scanner reads their retina print and starts changing the live adverts to ‘suit’ each individual as they walk past in real time.

A bit eerie, but not too far off, considering there are people today having implanted biometric chips in their hands to open their front doors, log into their PCs and the like......

GDPR is a joke, looking after the wrong party - who ignore it anyway. All I've ever had is to be told how they will use the information - when what I wanted was to be told that, without my express, unconditional, consent they would be obliged to delete all data within, say, 14 days.

I avoid providing ANY info. that is not essential to the transaction & have no qualms about telling outright lies, IF that is the only solution.

I've noticed that having ceased to click on my most recent Junk Mail and similarly to delete it; one or both of which I used to do just to show where I'd got to with checking it, has resulted in a substantial slow-down in the quantity arriving

I now use the button to 'Mark as Read' without opening, which works a treat.

I use thunderbird mail client it marks most spam as span and you can also mark the stuff it misses. It learns what is spam and warns you about scams and dodgy links. You just click empty junk and its gone.

My PC uses an Alasdair for its input device, it has to re-boot it often.

Big Brother is Shopping You too!

Well not exactly big brother but your fellow civic-minded citizens.

In New York City, get some video evidence of drivers leaving their stationary vehicles idling, send it to the "authorities" and you can make money from a percentage of the subsequent fine.

..and a "think tank" report, seeing the success of that scheme in New York could mean its coming here too!

That was on the BBC Breakfast programme this morning. Apparently it is illegal (in the UK) to leave an engine idling, and the first offender fine is £20. I am glad my van has Start/Stop technology!

Illegal on the roadside I assume? It would be hard to do a coolant change with the engine off

The scale of fines in NYC for trucks and Buses Idling is much higher than the £20 here $350-$2000 in this report
so a bit more encouragement for the "shoppers" with their cameras.
