Engine help!!

Post by C4robot »

Hi Guys,

I have a 2006 C3 Pluriel 1.4i petrol, I have had the rocket cover off to address the rust and placed it back on the car with a new rubber seal bit now the engine will not run properly, it will almost turn over and will do with a press of the accelerator pedal but when you take you foot off the car drops below idol and cuts out, apart the the single electric conector above the rocket cover which I disconnected for access I reconnected it after reinstalled the cover, the display in the car is showing, Depolution error and indicator faulty, I have done a BSI re set but this did not solve the issue, car has covered 44,000 from new full dealer service history last done in November and covered less than 1500 miles since then, never had a starting issue before even started first time after the winter been driving the car with out issue previous to this I managed to get the car back onto the drive but even with reving the engine she had no pulling power , any ideas would be appreciated unless theses something simple that I'm missing here 😖

Thanks in advance

Is the is the 8v engine?
Have you broken/split any of the breather pipes that go between the rocker cover & inlet manifold?
Check that you have not disturbed the MAP sensor connector.

Yeah 8v engine, map sensor checked and all breather pipes okay, if I press the accelerator down and start the engine up she fires up but won't rev past 4000rpm take your foot off and she dies 😩 might be unrelated but she was fine before I had the rocker cover off 😭

Sounds a bit coincidental it's happened after what you did. Try unplugging your throttle valve plug and reconnecting it and see what happens. Did you remove the coil pack to get the rocker cover off?

If you can get it onto a diagnostic scanner you will definitely have some error codes.

Managed to get her to spring back to life, seems to be a connection problem with the terminal block that connects to the coil pack, a bit of fiddling and got her running, there is some slight corrosion to one of the pins and the receiving connection. Now have the engine management light on displaying Anti pollution error, will clear the code and see how she goes , don't mind changing the coil pack but do not fancy messing with the connector and loom.

I recently managed to find a new connector for my coil pack on Ebay. Needs to be spliced into the harness and it's a bit of work to do it neatly. If you need to get one I can post a link to the listing for you.

Wires are a different colour to what you will have but that's not an issue. I staggered my joins so as there was not a big bulge in the wiring loom. I soldered the joints and put heatshrink over them, then finished it off with some insulting tape wrapped around all wires.

[Edit] I meant to say one of the existing wires is a shielded cable. I think it's the green wire. When you remove some of the existing loom wrap you will see what I mean. You might see a bare wire exposed where the shielded cable insulation finishes and the internal green wire continues to coil pack plug. Initially I thought that bare wire was something broken but it turns out it's not connected to anything at the coil pack side. It's there to reduce electrical interference as the green wire is the signal wire to the ECU.
