I worked for a Rootes dealer but I don't remember ever seeing that model of Cob, looks almost like a Series 111 saloon converted.

The earlier type in the auction we had as a company runabout, damn good/useful car.

I don't think that Husky is in the original colours, I had one once but never saw one in that colour. I think Rootes were possibly the originators of two tone finishes. When I started driving most cars were black but I had a 1950 Minx that was beige, a bit of a departure but in the mid '50s they brought out the 'Gaylook' Minx range in a variety of two tone finishes, very refreshing. Even the Hawk and Snipe got two tone black/blue paintwork.

My wife worked for a Rootes dealer on the '60s and we got some nice cheap cars, including a '58 Hawk with very tatty seat covers, for the price I was quite happy, I took the covers off to see how wrecked the seats were and was presented with brand new looking red leather, the covers must have been on since it was new!

Two tone started much earlier Peter, Morris 8s pre-war had red and black, green and black, blue and black, they continued that in the Series E post-war but I agree the Gay look Rootes stuff was very nice,

I agree there were a few two tone pre war cars, our neighbour had a blue/black Morris 10 but they didn't become the norm until the late '50s. The Vauxhall PA was available in some amazing colours, the first one I had was pink, mountain rose according to them, I had a later two tone blue one but they were available it seems in most primary colours and some that weren't.

I always wanted one of those, there was one in Honiton in the '70s when we moved here but long since dissapeared. I resprayed my pink one red and grey, there should be a picture of it on here somewhere, I will see if I can find the original.

I knew someone with a PA Friary - it was black! He then bought a 2nd one but it was too far gone, so he cut it in 1/2, welded up the back doors, painted it black & had a very stylish camping trailer: it really was a very impressive rig!

I don't think there were any duo-tone Huskies, much less Cobs but think Gibbo's right about it not being original, unless it's prototype/styling exercise/mule. Could it be a real one with a later Minx front end?

b-t-w, duo-tone HA's weren't exactly 2 a penny - I assume the one alongside the Cob is an SL90.

Yes, the Viva SL was the super luxury one with the "Side Flash in contrast Colour"
Vauxpedia has the contemporary brochures

love the language of those old brochures

"The pictures in this brochure reveal many of the "SL" Viva's attractive features but the camera cannot convey the sensation of sheer luxury which you experience when to travel in this "top" Viva. Only a drive can demonstrate its superb comfort and superior qualities."

Pre-war from Rover, a 1934 (P2) "Ten"

Our 1935 Ten (my Dad's, then mine, from 1963 to 1973) was just like this, but all-black.

Of course there were few 3-tone cars in the '30's, something even Detroit didn't emulate/re-invent in the gaudy '50's - well not 'til the Packard Caribbean (iirc)

A nice pair of 3 tones. Yellow, Maroon and Cream one of the finest liveries.......The Venture Bus a Consett speciality but I do believe there is only one genuine Venture Bus left in a state of preservation. This nice pair at the North East Bus and Coach Show at the Metrocentre today would appear to disprove that statement, but the one on the left is a re-registered imposter originally from north of the border, although very nicely painted up in original Venture Bus Colours.

Yes they are a pair of Leyland Leopards.

Well it stretches the definition a litle. Is brown on brown the worst manifestation of the 2-tone or as it turned out for me strangely appealing and worth a photo.

If I do the research I will come up with the right names for the shades, but its brown on brown at the moment.

I'm sure Chris will know off the top of his head if he happens to spot my post.
