C5 X7 brakes bleed & fluid refresh

Unread post by xf1ref »

Hi all,

I'm planning to do a brake bleed next weekend so I was wondering if I will need to do something special like connecting Diagbox and do some ABS settings. I will bleed in old way with someone to press the brake pedal, do I need to do this with the engine running?

There is a setting buried deep in Diagbox to 'open up' the ABS valves to allow for a complete brake fluid change.

I suppose that without opening ABS valves the fluid will remain trapped and will not be renewed.

There are 2 procedures - one is bleeding the Primary brake circuit that needs 2 people to do and if this operation has been completed, then the bleeding of the Secondary braking circuit must be done and this is completed with the diagnostic tool.

I've changed the discs and pads last year without any bleeding procedure. I will bleed the Primary circuit with help of a friend but the Secondary circuit I don't know exactly what to do apart from opening the ABS valves.
The ABS block have bleeder valves?

You don't need to bleed changing brake pads or discs. The Secondary brake bleeding procedure is contained within Diagbox itself, which is guided, but you can do one without the other. The Diagnostic tool does the necessary procedure but I can't tell you what it does as it is internal to the diagnostic.

Thank you, Marc. I know that I don't need to bleed when changing pads and discs but I feel the brake a bit lazy, is not like at other cars where you barely touch the brake pedal and the car freeze.

If the brakes are spongy or you have to pump them to slow then the fluid could be low or there may be air in the system.

Yes, the brakes are a bit spongy. After changing the discs and pads the fluid returned into reservoir and is above max sign. Anyway I hope a fluid refresh will be good for brakes.
