DS5 oil warning

Post by zipdip »

Hi all, well I had the car serviced, the mechanic said the diesel filter looked as though it had never been changed, and the pollen filters were completely full of crap, still all put right now,one small question, before I had the service when I started the car from cold I used to get in the right dash pod a message saying oil level correct this now seems to have disapeared, checked the oil level and it is correct in fact the car uses no oil between services, but I wondered if anybody knew how to get it back.

Ok, so there should be 3 messages displayed of this type regarding the oil. oil Level Correct and Oil Level Indicator Faulty.

So one of these should be appearing - however, the readings will only be read correctly when the car is level and the engine has been OFF for 30 minutes.

If you are not getting a warning after the 30 minutes then get it back to the dealer. I would also manually check the dipstick reading - again after the engine has been idle for a while and on level ground.

Hi Marc well today when I started my car I did get a message in the right dash pod, after 5 days of nothing it has put up Oil Level Measurement Invalid well I am making progress from nothing to that message, the oil level looking at the dipstick is correct right up to the top mark A on the dipstick,I suppose I will have to take it back to the mechanic,I wondered if he used his diagnostic Snap-On tool to reset the service light instead of the way we spoke about in a earlier post,a shame because as a service went it was a good one,at least I suppose as I have a message at least it proves that the oil level sensor is working,I had a look around the engine but could not spot it,I thought maybe the electrical connection was not on,maybe the sensor has to be reset time will tell.

Sometimes it can take a while to calibrate itself. Glad you have it sorted.

Hi I last week I was getting a massage on my right dash board saying (OIL LEVEL MEASUREMENT INVALID), I have checked the the oil level from the dipstick and it was perfect but the car kept giving me this message ever time I would leave off for a bit. So I took it to my mechanic and he said that the oil level sensor was damaged and I ordered a news sensor for Citroen dealer but today I want to collect the car and it still saying the same thing every time it seats for a while so I don’t know what to do should I take it to the Citroen dealer is there a need maybe to get the new sensor calibrated for my car?

Hi

If you have fault codes F159 or B1818 specifically, then this is to do with an excess of engine oil.

It's a know issue with some vehicles with the DW10CTED4 engine./ It involves removing and cutting 6cm off the bottom of the guide tube, refitting and then correcting the oil level using the dipstick.

Only relevant if you have the mentioned fault codes though.

Also the oil measurement sensor can throw a problem - it sometimes needs the oil cooling down after a run before checking - but in either case, always check oil from the dipstick and don't rely on the instrument panel alone (the fault I described above being the exception if relevant).

Hi
I have check the oil with the dipstick and it’s at correct level and it only shows the massage (Oil Level measurement invalid) when the engine has cool down because if I start the engine and then I switch of after some minutes and start it again it doesn’t give.

Since I have changed the oil level sensor do I need to take it to Citroen to get the new oil lever sensor calibrated? Or is there any thing that must be done after changing the oil sensor?

Marc has given you the possible answer - cut the bottom (not the top) of the guide tube for the dipstick. Note that this is only a valid fix if you have the error codes listed though so you need to have the car read with a suitable code reader first.

I had the same error on my C5 X7 which was fixed under warranty 7 years ago. I was amazed at this fix and still don't really understand how it works.

You may have wasted your money fitting the new sensor.
