New Clutch 2011 c5 e-hdi auto

Post by renagade »

Well last week I took my c5 in for a new clutch. I arrived at 8.30am and gave the garage my keys and picked up the keys for the loan car, which was a spanking new c3 high spec with 4k on the clock. I was advised the day after i took it in that the gearbox was off the car and that I would need a DMF , which i instructed them to fit. Guess what a week later and Citroen uk have not been able to deliver a DMF to Citroen Doncaster. I am still waiting.

That seems nuts as it must be blocking their ramp! I wonder if they are trying to get a re-con one - what price did they quote? New is £415, re-con £320. There's loads of LUK / Valeo ones on e-bay, so it should be possible for them to get a genuine one from a local factors same day.

I hope that they will compensate you for the hassle. There is no excuse for this, as (when you booked your car in for the work) they should have had all of the required (and likely to be required) parts available when they started the work. OK, the DMF does not always need to be changed, but good practise would be to have one available, as they do wear out.

They're not going to do that until the car arrives at their premises, I used to try to do it, that's why forty years on I'm still trying to dispose of parts I bought in and the customer never turned up, wanna buy some Hillman Minx bits or a piston for a Bedford Midi van. :x

Then, if they wait until the vehicle is on their premises before ordering the parts, they should (at the time of booking) make sure they know where they can get the parts from, and what the lead time is.

Perhaps you haven’t heard of the ‘Just in Time’ system James? It saves dealers having to store massive amounts of parts. There are arrangements in place with suppliers that can provide parts just before they are needed through the distribution chain. However if there is a shortage in the manufacturing process or another delay that will of course add a delay to getting the part unfortunately.

So the dealer will only keep things like service items which they use on a daily basis and some other frequently used items.

I have heard of the "Just In Time" supply chain system, but it also should be married to a "Just In Case" chain, to allow them to know where they can get hold of far less commonly used parts. Having to wait for a week or more while parts are sourced and delivered is just beyond belief.

One dealership (which I will no longer have anything to do with, as I had bad service from them on more than one occasion) had my company van in for a service. They had a couple of weeks notice of this (and knew what the mileage was). When she went in they found that the front disks and pads were worn to the point where she would not make it to the next service. Unfortunately they did not have these parts in, only found the problem after midday (despite me dropping her off at 08:00), as the parts would not arrive until the following day.

Like I said, a manufacturer that has at least 40+ vehicles excluding commercials is not going to keep 40 sets of brake discs in at their dealerships and separate brake pads necessarily for all those models.

If they don’t normally have them within their internal dealership network from which they can usually get a delivery within the same day then they will obviously have to get on the next day from the next supplier and that’s perfectly reasonable.

Hi Guy's
Well the day after I took the car in they called me to say that the gearbox had been removed and it was decided that the DMF had gone and needed ordering,by the way they have quoted me £566 inc vat for the clutch and £455 inc vat for the DMF.
To night a got a text . ( not a call ) to tell me the car was ready to collect.
We will see

Well I got the car back fixed, shampood and hoovered. No charge for the loan car and as far as I can tell a bloody good job. All for £1020.00. Now I am really skint so I hope nothing goes wrong with the car while I try and build my bank balance back up. By the way they gave me a 4 part payment plan . 1st payment £255.00 next on the 19th of the next three months. No charge for this. Evans Halshaw Doncaster Citroen .
