Xsara PIcasso Crank Sensor

Unread post by thebrasso »

Morning all,

Now that the weather seems to be improving, i'm looking at replacing my crankshaft sensor.
Now know that it is behind the lower pulley, but how do you go on about removing the old on and replacing it with a new on. I can see what looks like a 8mm bolt holding it to the engine block, but when i tried last year, this didn't work and it seemed to be held in behind the pulley.?

Any insight or help that i could receive on this matter i would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

PS
Forgot to mention its a 2007 1.6hdi

Sorry i cant help you there sir, but request a parts exploded view which may help. The sensor is a 2 wire unit, and has a magnetic end??

The Mechanics hand books on here may also shed some light on the subject, or the haynes book of lies, which is better than nothing, but only just.

Sometimes ECP shows some tech detail like a resistance value.

Cambiare do a good techy info bit on their website also.

Don't bother asking citroen or bosch for any tech info.

If you follow the wires from it to the ecu, AND, double check with the correct wiring diagram as to wires and which block and pin they connects to on the ecu, then if you dare, you can break into the wires and splice a suitably terminated insulated ended wire that can live outside the main loom/bunddle, making it real easy to "monitor" the output via a scope or even a dmm when the engine is cranking and running.

If your gunna do this, disconnect the battery according to the procedure, do the mod making sure of wires and oulet positions etc. BEFORE you cut any wires and splice. Be aware that the wires may be "shielded".

Why do you want to replace the crank sensor??

You'll need to post your VIN here so we can determine exact engine variant.

I m pretty sure the 1.6 HDi has a 3 wire Hall effect crank sensor & if I remember right the crank pulley needs to be removed to allow the sensor to be withdrawn out.
Why are you changing it? Years back when this engine first came out there was a tech bulletin to replace with a modified sensor & new connector plug with gold plated terminals.

Think it was just bad connections, just touching the plug would cause the engine to cut out.
