The state takes an interest for several reasons. Obese people need more medical care and that's a cost to the state a huge cost. Diabetes is a big risk in the overweight this is more medical costs plus stuff like days off work etc. Probably many more reasons. If you want to plat your chest hair or tattoo your legs the state doesn't care because it won't be a cost to anyone except maybe your dignity medical care costs medicines costs and everyone is paying.


But the obese die young so will not be a burden on the health service in their dotage so that should balance out. :)

While food is plentiful and cheap (yes it is) they will never stop obesity no matter how much they try to regulate.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
