xsara 2.0 hdi 110 53 plate rear brakes sticking and hesitant to rev

Unread post by leewesley20371 »

Hi all, I bought a citroen Xsara 2.0 hdi 110bhp estate and have found the rear feels like it's being dragged and it also feels like it is hesitant when you rev it at a standstill. The car had been standing for at least 4 months but the owner was starting it every now and again. It also blows white smoke on idle and the dipstick is showing too much oil. I've been advised by a friend to check the compression.

The best advice is to get it on Lexia and have it properly read for any error codes to determine if there are any specific issues. We can help you with the diagnostic codes, but air and fuelling issues are too numerous to make wild guesses.

If after warming up the exhaust is blowing white smoke, that indicates it is burning coolant - for example from a blown head gasket. Blue smoke will be as a result of burning oil and black smoke means it is burning too much fuel or there is too little air in the fuel mixture.

So really, a diagnostic is the best place to start.

Hi all again, I am about to take the car for an mot as it ran out in Jan 19, I have also noticed I have the dipped beam symbol flashing on the dash. What does it mean if it flashes as I realise if my lights are automatic, which I know they are the light would be constant.

My dash side light used to flash - it's either a bulb blown or a dodgy stalk contact (my stalk would vibrate and turn the side lights on whilst driving)

If your lighting stalk feels a bit 'floppy' or wiggles about a bit, then it's probably going to get worse. So I would look to getting that sorted or it can cause the lighting to start playing up.

Just an idea, is anyone in and around the St Austell area of Cornwall who has a Lexia who would be willing to come and plug it into my xsara to see if there's anything that needs to be done as my basic code reader is s**t.

Admin/Mods should change that information. Where up north? Is he still willing to offer his services?

It is unfortunate that very few who offer their help with diagnostics ever update their information, some just fail to respond at all.

Spiff is fairly close bay and has been on the forum today, may be able to help.
