CCTV Anyone knowledgeable?
Hi all
Only very tentatively Citroen related, sorry, but I'm at my wits end and you guys are stars for answering, so...
Following a vandalism incident a couple of years ago, I bought and installed a CCTV system at home, to monitor my most vulnerable cars.
The problem stopped and started over the following months, but always off camera, then stopped for a long time.
Last week, on 2 separate occasions, damage was caused in places that ARE covered and I need to access the footage.
This is where the problem arises. I don't recall setting a password, as at home I have no staff and the only person with access to the system is myself. Despite this, the system is demanding a password before it will allow me to play back. I've tried all the common default passwords, several possible ones I may have set myself, then forgotten about, and emailed the seller to ask for help.
I Googled it and found several suggestions, even paying for a list of master passwords, but none of it has helped.
The system is a "NightPro 7000 series" with a "model number" label saying CD8CH1-HD
It has a 2Tb hard drive and came in a nice glossy cardboard box proclaiming "Digital Video H.264DVR" and "I believe the power of brands", yet bears no brand of it's own.
Has anybody any experience of this, or any suggestions that I have not tried?
I really don't want to disable the system by taking the HDD out of it. I'm not even sure that would help, as I don't know what format the files are in.
So far, Cit has not been harmed, though she is in a vulnerable location and covered by a camera.
I'm getting desperate now and I really need to get the footage into the right hands, before it starts getting overwritten.
Can any of our great membership help out?
PMs are welcome, if you have knowledge you'd rather not make public, and any info I garner that way will be treated as confidential.
Thanks everyone and apologies for the tangential topic

Have you tried the password of 111111 ?
It appears to be the default password for that system.

There is usually a default admin password until the user changes it. It should be detailed in your manual. If not the default, and you have changed it, then you are probably snookered. I doubt there is a master password to override it as that would be pretty pointless.

Thanks guys
Sadly, according to the manual and the somewhat better translated pdf on the little cd that came with it, there's no password set when you first set it up and one of the steps is to set your password.
I'm 99% sure I chose "Skip" at that point, but I am occasionally surprising myself nowadays, so I MAY have set something simple that I could never forget.
I've consulted a couple of real life experts and there is apparently always (or almost always) a master password, to allow the official service personnel to solve this problem, which is far more common than I would ever have thought possible.
The difficulty is that each manufacturer has their own confidential master password and in my case, the manufacturer cannot be identified.
My next step is to dismantle it and look for identifying marks on the motherboard, or even the cpu, which might give a clue the experts can follow.
If they can't figure it out, there is a chance they can read the HDD, with dedicated software, but that's very cumbersome and not practical on an ongoing basis.
Fingers crossed, so...

Re: CCTV Anyone knowledgeable?
Is this your system? If so maybe you could get some help through the help link here, alternatively provided there's no limit on how many tries you can make you could try all the usual basic passwords such as 1234, 0000, 1111, Admin, Password, etc.

Re: CCTV Anyone knowledgeable?
My home system I have set a user and password along with the admin one that was preloaded, if like mine it pops up with 'admin' in the username, leave the password blank and hit enter,
As a warning, unless you have signs up in area's that covered by the cameras to warn the public, they may view the footage as inadmissible, i have some small stickers up on the front door, back door and shed doors as public/customers pass through the cameras view on the way to drop bikes at the shed,' just incase'

Hi Gibbo
Thanks, but no, mine's not like that.
In some ways it's the big brother of that system, having 8 channels, 2Tb hdd and a rather different black plastic fascia, with fewer buttons.
However, having got no response from my original supplier, also an Amazon seller, I may as well try this one.
Hopefully they didn't just get the Night Pro labels in the same place...

Alas, the response from that seller leads me to believe they bulk buy generic Chinese DVRs and stick NightPro labels on them, before selling them to the unwitting public. They appear to know nothing about them, other than rudimentary set-up directions.
Coincidentally, Aldi had home cctv systems this week, so I got one of those and will swap it for mine this week, thus maintaining security coverage, while freeing up my own to send away for professional interrogation.
And, as a bonus, Aldi know a thing or two about customer care and after-sales service, so the new system may end up being the permanent solution.
Fingers crossed the pro's can get some reasonable shots of the scrotes at work and we can finally do something pro-active about them.
I'm tired of hiding in the shrubbery with an iron bar for company until the small hours every night!

When I had my drive re-laid and wanted to record it being done I stuck my dashcam to my front bedroom window and ran it off a battery pack, filmed the whole job.
I don't know if I can show one here, does this let you upload .avi files?

No - you can only link to a YouTube video Gibbo, so you would have to convert it and upload it to your YouTube account and then link to it.

Re: CCTV Anyone knowledgeable?
I gave my Mum a dash cam for her narrow boat. It came in useful in the Bath area last summer, when some idiots on a hire boat (probably a stag party) crashed into an old, wooden hulled narrow boat, causing enough problems that she sank at her moorings overnight (I think I mentioned it in the Dash Cam section). The footage from Mums' dash cam was good enough for the Police.

Hi Sparksie, it may seem daft, but have you tried no password at all, just leave the password field empty and hit ok!
