407 coupe boot lock

Unread post by daviemck2006 »

My 407 wont ooen its boot from the outside button in the middle of the 0. So I can only ooen the boot from the remote on the key. Im wondering two things, is the button on the coupe and saloon the same article? Could some kind soul look up the price for me. Also would it be possible to splice into the wires and run a slave push button inside the car somewhere if I could get an appropriate button to mount in the centre consul somewhere. TIA

Davie - yes the switch is the same on the Coupe and Saloon - part no 872565 at £21.89. If it's just a 2 wire microswitch (which I expect it is) then I can't see why you can't wire one in parallel inside the car somewhere.

I have no knowledge of the 407 but a similar thing happened to old Citroen Xsara Estate car. The button on the tailgate wouldn't work and we had to use the remote all the time.

The fault lay with a broken wire in the loom that goes between the tailgate and body. With the constant flexing of the loom by the hinge wires inside eventually broke. A fix was made by cutting out sections and soldering new wires in to where the loom was flexing.

It could also be the microswitch of course. But this actually seems to be less common.

In case it's of any help here is the wiring diagram for your Coupe Davie.
6282: Boot Opening Switch
6222: Boot Lock Assembly

Wiring:
EM01: It the Earth Crimp Point shared commonly with both the above -
6297: Rear screen opening input
6229: boot opening + control
6283A: Boot open switch input (BSI)

Check also the Owner's Handbook.
Some cars had the facility to disable boot opening (by the button/catch), and make this only possible via the remote - to prevent theft from the boot in standstill traffic.
The option was enabled/disabled by the angle at which the key was removed from the boot lock.
Worth checking the book, Davie.

On these it is automatic anyway Chris, once the vehicle gets over 6 MPH all the doors and tailgate lock automatically.

Theres nowhere to put a key into the boot to unlock it Chris. There is a push button disguised in the centre of the 0 in 407 and the remote and that is it. That looks like, to my limited electrical knowledge, if I get the wires 6297 and m6282 and connect them into a push button inside the car somewhere then the boot should open with that. I will have to check the continuation of these wires from the button on the boot to where it joins the wiring in the boot as it may well be the wires are broken where thet move.

Are you sure it IS automatic, Marc? On my C5 I can enable automatic locking by holding down the lock button (on the dashboard) for a few seconds until I get the relevant message (something like "deadlocking enabled"), but I can also (the same way) disable automatic locking. I don't know if the 407 has the same option.

I'm sure Davie already knows James, but it is normally activated by default, but in any case holding this button in for several seconds activates or deactivates the function.

@Davie - If the boot is unlocking via the BSI comand, i.e. from the internal button on the dash in the picture, or by the fob, then the locking mechanism is fine and it must be either the microswitch in the locking switch unit or a shared wire from the feed coming off to the switch that may be duff.

OK, the key option must have died with XM/Xantia. The facility was something most owners never knew about.

My S2 Xantia did not have key locks in the boot.

Davie,

Mine did this and it turned out to be a break in the wiring loom going into the boot lid.

Ive not had a chance to investigate this, it is working fine from the button on the key and there is no internal button so it must either be the button or a break in the wiring. I shall let you know
