Engine Codes

Unread post by rossnunn »

I was trying to look up the engine number of my new 1400 to find a wiring diagram. I've found a flat part on the block which has two lines of numbersd & letters. One line starts KFX or similar - its hard to tell & the other line starts PSA.
But looking around on Peugoet / Citroen websites all the engine numbers start or include TU.
Then I read that the best way is through the logbook or chassis number - neither of which I have because I bought the engine as a stand alone unit.

TU = The engine family type

Um, er, from very vague and distant memory I think that the KFX code denotes multipoint TU 1.4 with the cast iron block and 101 tooth cambelt (an alloy block 1.4 TU has 108 teeth). So if you look at the timing belt.........

TU's are a very easy engine family:
954cc - TU9
1124cc - TU1
1294cc - TU24
1360cc - TU3
1587cc - TU5
1360cc Diesel - TUD3
1527cc Diesel - TUD5
The letter codes on the end denote the power, spec etc of the engine.
KFX or KFW is a TU3(JP) engine. 75bhp, multi-point used in Saxo's, Xsara's, 106's etc.
KDX, KDZ or KDY are TU3M or Z. The 75bhp carb unit used in basic AX's, later BX 14's and ZX's. AX GT and 205 XS are K2A or K2B which are TU3S with 85bhp (twin choke Solex).
Etc!
