In a statement they said: "The significant challenges of electrification will see Honda revise its global manufacturing operations, and focus activity in regions where it expects to have high production volumes
VP of Honda
They are clear this is based on global trends and not Brexit as all European market production will consolidate in Japan in 2021.
Swindon North MP Justin Tomlinson

Hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Where is Honda's "European Market production"?

Swindon. It's the only European factory.

I don't see any news about them closing their parts factory in Belgium. I wonder why...?

Why do you believe anything these people say? Serious question..

Ian Howells of Honda himself stated only last year t that they were committed to the Swindon factory.

Earlier *this month* Honda reiterated it's commitment to Swindon...

The reason we are in a mess in this country is because people simply believe what they are told and don't question anything.

It's similar to the states with the Donald standing up for American interests when he binned the NAFTA agreement so that in order to get preferential tariffs manufacturers of foreign vehicles have to have a min. 75% of components that are US originated. But that would affect the production of Honda's Mexican-produced Fit vehicle as there would be fewer incentives to make it there. They were toying with the idea back in November of moving that back to Japan too.

Some might say that's what we should be doing - start making great British products again with British materials.

The world is changing.
There is overproduction of cars in Europe.
Car sales are declining.
People are waking up to the fact that the fossil fuel burners' days are numbered.
It's not certain that private car ownership has a long term future.
Honda are primarily interested in their own long term survival - and this might not be a future we would recognise.

The world moves on whether we like it or not.

It's working really well isn't it?

Sony
Dyson
Panasonic
Lloyds
Unilever
Goldman Sachs
Barclay
Airbus
Flybmi
P&O
HSBC
JP Morgan
Ford
Hitachi
Toshiba
AXA
Honda
Philips
Bank of America
Bupa

All companies that have either decided they're off or have made massive cuts the to the B word.

I wonder if all these Government task forces set up to help those affected do things like... pay mortgages and bills..

Yes! It does. That's the whole point! It appears many want us to go back to 1970, not forward.

One could, for example, read something other than the British mainstream media.. Such as a Japanese media, that has no political axe to grind.

That makes some pretty sobering reading.
The list of companies relocating just gets longer.
Brexit may not be the prime reason, but is certainly a major aggravating factor in a climate of reduced global demand.
The cost of shipping parts across continents is already high, and so added logistical and fiscal complications are enough to call the operation into question.

This is pretty prescient stuff.
It would be helpful if the UK government had some long-term plans for the country's future, but there is little sign of it.

Looking at Mike's list there are few 'British' companies on there. Dyson, Lloyds, Unilever and Barclays are about it. Flybmi haven't relocated they've gone broke.
Sony
Dyson
Panasonic
Lloyds
Unilever
Goldman Sachs
Barclay
Airbus
Flybmi
P&O
HSBC
JP Morgan
Ford
Hitachi
Toshiba
AXA
Honda
Philips
Bank of America
Bupa

Nail -------> Head  Bre... is made out to be the cause of all ills, but in so many cases it's just the final nail in the coffin.

Whilst it would seem common sense to have long term plans, I'm not actually sure it's possible - at least not for any REALLY useful ends.
Governments can guess where trade and industry will be in 10 years time, but it only needs a few more Trumps in this world to screw their plans. Add in the odd financial crisis, some fresh Wikileaks, maybe the odd pandemic here and there (Plague V2.0, anyone ? :? ), perhaps an extra war or two, Putin scoring his 14th term in office, and the best laid plans of mice and men.......
The 'sensible' approach would be to maintain flexibilty i.e. not rely on any one industry or commercial activity or any one trading region. All they have to do is construct UK Business PLC to fit that plan. Shouldn't be too difficult :rofl2:

It doesn't matter where they are from if they are leaving, it's still mainly UK jobs that are going.

Flybmi laid the blame at their issues solely on Brexit.

Let’s not forget a bit of balance on the Dyson issue - Dyson production has moved a while ago, but let’s also not forget the massive investment he still makes in R&D in the UK another £200M in Wiltshire with several thousand jobs. All in electric vehicle testing....

Airlines that have gone bust in Europe in the last 4 years:
Monarch
Air Berlin
Azurair Germany
Air Italy & Meridiana (merged)
Cobalt Air
Primera Air
Small Planet Airlines
SkyWork
Germania
FlyBMI

There is well known airline seat overcapacity in Europe. There is well known volatility in fuel costs.

Flybmi won't be the last airline failure, say analysts:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47278322
"In two short sentences, Flybmi's announcement that it had collapsed summed up the airline industry's woes: fuel costs, green taxes, Brexit uncertainty, falling passenger numbers. It might have added fierce competition, but that is probably a statement of the obvious."

The world is changing.
