Got It - XM S2 - Now What?
I made an offer for the S2 I was looking at and secured it for just under £2500.
The car is in Bangkok so it will take a few days to exchange the paperwork and re-register, make a couple of bank transfers and arrange to have the car trailered some 700 kilometres up here, probably next week.
Then a complete review of what's to be done, all being well (hahaha) it should only be minor stuff, if it's anything more serious you'll be hearing me crying for help!
One thing I would like, if anyone has a spare drivers handbook for a s2 I'd be happy to purchase same and pay the postage of course.
It seems I am also 2 wheel centres missing - is there any hope for me out there?
Likewise any period accessories, for the car or for me to flaunt, would be most welcome.
Couple of Photos to show condition

Sounds good news, Rex.
As well as the photos, can you post the car's RP (or VIN) number, so we can look out the correct Owner's Handbook - there were lots, all slightly different.
Put the info and request on club-xm.co.uk as well. John (xmexclusive) there has access to almost all the Handbooks.

There was a slightly different user handbook for each year of production, you can tell from the part number which is on the rear cover, it should (if I remember correctly) end in a 5 for a 1995 car. I don't have one of those because both my XMs were 1999 with French handbooks.
Remind us which engine and trim this one has.

Re: Got It - XM S2 - Now What?
Thanks for the info, now I know what handbook I'm looking for.
Engine is 2.0i 16v, it's difficult working to trim levels as I've only the haziest idea of what UK trim levels are. I'd left UK for distant shores sometime before the XM was introduced. In a previous post a member said it was close to the Australian VSX. However currently it has recently replaced black leather interior.

Don't know about trim levels, but I do know the gear lever is not standard in wood. And the steering wheel and the radiocontrols are not origional Xm (at least for the European ones I've seen). Looks to me like one from a Xantia or possibly even a Xsara.

I can't disagree with those comments, and just noticed that the door cards are from a S1 XM, as they have the square shape where the doors close against the dash board. There seem also to be some extra switches on the panel rear of the gear lever.

Re: Got It - XM S2 - Now What?
Thanks for the input. Almost all XMs and Xantias here seem to come with the wooden gear knob, likewise the steering wheel seems a pretty standard Thai fitting. How stupid of me not to spot the door cards (and I wonder how that came about?) Better add Door Cards to my shopping list!
I've not yet seen the car first hand, it was bought on the photos and a contacts inspection. All I can show of the switch panel is this a close up from the other shot - does it help?

The switches all look fine except the round one protruding under the wing mirror directional controls. - Looks like a USB port that has been added - for charging or to feed into the radio if an aftermarket Head Unit has been fitted.

That is also series one electric door mirror switch controller too.. And yes S2 xantia steering wheel..
So a slight mish mash.. S1 door cards and mirror switch and S2 xantia wheel..
The wooden auto selector lever could be a nice replacement for UK levers that have all broken and split...

Re: Got It - XM S2 - Now What?
My Xantia has a wooden gear knob (as I discovered when I cleaned it) but thought nothing of it, as it has bits of "wood" trim - & no one commented on it at the time, so only now do realise it must be an aftermarket one.

Higher spec Xantias and XMs with manual transmission had wooden gear knobs from the factory. The car we are talking about here is an automatic which always had plastic handles on the gear lever, but they regularly break and new replacements are no longer available, so it is likely that the wooden item has been custom-made to replace a broken original.
I don't think the steering wheel pictured above is actually from a S2 Xantia, as the airbag and radio switches look wrong, and is it an oval wheel, or just the photo distortion.

Re: Got It - XM S2 - Now What?
Just found a few examples including an obviously customised one... Both my Autos has wooden gear surround fascias, but a non-wooden gear selector.
It would seem that a lot of manual boxes had a wooden selector though.
