Hope sorting out the notices already issued proves as painless.

Surprised (if) meladdo's STILL using the same plates but at least it won't inconvenience anyone else, even if he gets more ambitious & starts collecting parking &/or speeding tickets, driving in bus lanes or jumping red lights. Unfortunately, however, chances of him being stopped are very slim - unless he has a (serious) accident or commits a moving offence in plain sight of at least police officers.

Time was when his sort physically stole the plates* (or bought them from some one who had) but, somewhat perversely, since they made it more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain new plates, they haven't needed to resort to that.

Another curiosity is the frequency with which they use numbers of vehicles out in the sticks, usually that never leave their county, much less visit London.

* this was such a problem in France that it is a legal requirement that plates are rivetted on.

It was a good idea at the time, same a metal plates (in case of fire), but these days with cordless drills!

For my neighbours grandson it was even worse, he bought a Cavalier off me and kept getting visits from the cops, although he could prove the car must have been cloned it turned out that it was cloned by his namesake a guy with exactly the same name as himself, living just twelve miles away.

Maybe so but the ever resourceful French have the ansewer: white & blue rivets!

I mentioned stealing plates - because that's how it USED to be done! There not really any need for that now, those who indulge in this sort of thing are always well on top of developments, e.g. a coupleof years ago there were a disproportionate number of black Mercedes - with Latvian & Lithuanian plates.

b-t-w, false plates needn't be cloned.

True but that is the most likely scenario.

There was a time when most car dealers had their own plastic number plate making kit, there's a lot of it still floating about in the car boot fraternity.

It could be that he's just
an innocent, suckered into buying a stolen car with false plates.

Or when he tried to pay for the Dartford Crossing....

My sister thought she had something similar when she got a speeding ticket. Both the police and the DVLA told her the best plan was cheap private plates (!). It turned out to be a clerical error as when she asked for and got a photo of the offence the number plate was not even hers!

I'm not sure if I'm less or more likely to have this by always having an uncommon car.

Well,,,The police in Kent have sent an email saying yes it has been cloned but appears to not be using it at the minute, maybe using another cars registration..
with 100 million cars on the road perhaps he will give me a miss for a while.
At least I can COPY the email to dart charge and at last convince them it is not me.
My plates are a Private plate now, So they will have to think again..
But should this continue I will be taking them to court for stress and having to pay for my new plate........
number on the Pictures are clearly my old number plate,NOT Miss read.,..
