Had a van from this lot sitting in the close this morning long enough to note all the vehicles here. Anyone come across them before?

You bagged the 70,000 th post to this section of the forum Gibbo.

Now if you had spotted one of these in your close, you could have had 50 points on the classic car spotting thread!

er.... and if you had spotted a Morris Oxford Estate suitably equipped and logoed up for TV detection that would have been at least 100 points!

I don't think he had any hits here Marc although one of the neighbour's daughters parks her car on the little used corner of the footpath.

I wonder if what he was really after was the haphazard parking by the doctor's surgery round the corner where 'anywhere will do' is the rule.

You should've taken the number and reported it to the police as a suspicious vehicle.

Wish they still had TV detector vans, then I wouldn't be plaguedby the TVLO which finds it not only suspicious, but unacceptable that I don't have a licence. Apparently there should be one registered to every address - whether you require one or not or indeed, even if it is unoccupied. #-o

Love the irony of them using Dodges as detector vans :-D

They keep telling my daughter that they are coming to inspect - she says OK, has to be after 7pm. as at work all day.
Been going on for over a year now and she still hasn't seen them.

If she goes to the gym after work it cam be 10pm before she lands at home.
She has no TV :)

Only a year, I've been having this battle for 20. Not having a TV is not on their list of reasons for not having a licence.

Why, and by what right, do they have a database of addresses that DON'T have a licence? If DVSA continually hounded people for not having a driving licence, or a vehicle registered at their address, there'd be uproar - & rightly so, but TVLO seems to think it has a God-given right to persecute people that don't fit their social norm (& to hell with the European Convention on Human Rights, in which they are patently, & consistantly, in breach).

I have relatives who refuse to have a TV licence, as they do not watch any of the drivel on the TV and refuse to pay for it - and proactively wrote to TV licensing telling them this. They use streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime only and Youtube. They also no longer use BBC iPlayer since they have stipulated that this also now needs to be covered by a TV licence), have no satellite installed, and no aerial connected (the aerial has been internally wired in, but is bundled up and disconnected and they have no intention of removing the aerial from the roof).

So they have been told they are welcome to come any time and check this, They have acknowledged this but have never yet visited. I guess if you are upfront and honest, and do not have a connected aerial or satellite, you are fine and have nothing to worry about.

Actually you need a licence for any piece of equipment "capable" of receiving a TV signal - NOT able to receive a signal so, I suppose, technically, none of us can escape BUT they are more than welcome to try and prove "capable" in court. However they won't do that, they prefer an endless stream of cheap, nasty, downright unpleasant communications printed by someone with a serious personality disorder on a child's printing set.

They use to tell you once you'd told them you didn't have a TV they wouldn't trouble you for three years, now it seems the only way to stop this drivel is to get a licence, which I will - when I'm old enough not to have to pay for it!

No, actually you don't have to have a licence for owning a TV whether it is capable of receiving a broadcast or otherwise; you just must not watch, download or stream LIVE TV broadcasts or use iPlayer:
You don’t need a TV Licence to own or possess a television set. However, if you use it to watch or record programmes as they are being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, or to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer, then you need a TV Licence in order to do so.
So it's perfectly normal for a Smart TV to have the likes of Youtube, Neflix and the like built in - and nothing they can do about it.

Although we have a licence - I could do without it, but I do like watching some of the live parliamentary debates and there is also a Soap fan in the household, otherwise I would not be bothered with the drivel that is on. Most things are repeats and the only half decent stuff is from the 70s, 80s and the like - which I've already got in my significant DVD box sets or or Blu Ray collection. :-D

Likewise. I've amassed a very decent collection of 70s and 80s dramas, documentaries, sitcoms, etc. :)

You're kidding me! Some of those Parliamentary debates are better entertainment than anything you could imagine. But, sadly it also shows how broken things are in that department - enough said.

Yes, I often have a box set on the go as I can't abide TV adverts - and specifically all the begging ones that seem to be on Sky 24 hrs - if it's not PPI and Claims for you and all that, it's those sick adverts pulling at the heart strings getting vulnerable people to direct debit to countless charities.

I don't want to sound heartless, but I'm of the opinion that if people feel strongly enough about a good cause they will support / donate to a cause in their own way. I know quite a few elderly people that have been caught out and once they contribute to one charity - all of a sudden they are bombarded with literally hundreds of begging letters - utterly disgusting. I do know one person that got so swamped with begging letters and calls that she became suicidal because of the depression of not being able to help them all!
