The Pickled Egg trivia quiz

Post by xantia_v6 »

For those with too much useless information cluttering up their brains or too much time on their hands, we will try a pub trivia quiz...

Rules may be added later, but try to keep it vaguely related to motoring.

If the quiz has been dormant for a few days, feel free to drop i another question.

First question:

What was the last production car to be fitted with a "Deluxe" badge on the boot lid?

I know the Ford 105 E usually was, and probably the Mk3 Cortina, but after that I can't think of any (and Ford decided that "Ghia" was more up-market).

Like it....I will attempt some guesses.

Will we be counting the DL abbreviation or are you wanting the full deluxe, in gleaming chrome emblazoned across the boot?

Possibly up to 1991 with this....

Trabant 601S Deluxe. Produced from 1964 up until 1991, and a good chance that the chrome "deluxe" badge may well have survived to the last of the production line, the duroplast body did!

More research needed, but there may well still be a 'Deluxe' being made* :) However, the chances of seeing one on our roads are slim. I give you - The Kia Ray. The what !?!? you say  It was built for the South Korean domestic market, but they still seem to be churning them out.... at least they were last year.

Quote from wikipedia: "The Ray is also available in non-EV types equipped with gasoline and bi-fuel with a gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combination. Both engines are available in four trims - Deluxe, Special, Luxury and Prestige. Only available in the local Korea domestic market, both engines produce similar power and outputs."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Ray

That's you lot educated :-D

* - unable to confirm if the name 'Deluxe' appears on the boot lid

I have a feeling that the Hillman Minx deluxe had such a badge but finding a rear end picture might take a while.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

What is one step up from De-Luxe :?: ......why its Super Luxe :!: ........not a contender for newest car with such a badge, but maybe well up in the most inapropriate car for the description stakes.

Not the answer on the card, but true in those locations on the first list. The M96 does exist.

As you might expect on Only Connect bit of a contrived link.

The answer on the card was
Spoiler: show
The Counties mentioned are the nearest counties /highways authorities or whatever which have no motorways themselves to those motorways mentioned.

That's a hell of a contrived answer !

As for the M96 - is it on a test track or stretch of motorway simulation ?
