They're flea pits a lot of them - like public transport - unless of course by then we have the 'Autonomous Dyson' to clean them!

And just to add that whilst having my semi annual paper shred today, I came across a letter from the AA, stating that their webiste had been compromised and that my details, username, email, credit card partial number and encrypted password had been breached!

The letter was in 2018 and related to a purchase I had made from the AA website a few years earlier - so none of the details bothered me as they would all of changed - but just to highlight another example of how serious they take our data - NOT!

It's another reason why I use Apple Pay as much as I can as there is no exchange of any credit card or personal data - only a meaningless code that generated at the time. It's getting ridiculous and the next item on my Christmas list is a shielded credit card wallet to prevent intrusive scanners!

Whilst I take your humorous point about the autonomous Dyson, do you think the autonomous car designers of tomorrow wouldn't have taken car cleanliness into account ?
I'm sure there would be minging autonomous cars available, and they'd cater for the budget end of the market, but that doesn't mean they all have to be in a bad state.

Although I'm not quite at the Michael Jackson Oxygen tent stage yet Robin, I'm sure they will think of something in the future. :-D

Now I have to arrange another SIM for my carphone, thanks to Vodafone disconnecting it for non-use! I think I only had about £25 quid on there! Time to switch that one to Three as they never expire, but not before I've given them some grief.

Good luck. My last experience with Voda ended with me taking them to the ombudsman... and I won :-D

For the same reason? I know it's in the T&Cs that if you don;t send a text or make a call within 180 days they disconnect you - it's just that I use it for the emergency services / crash / Accident / SOS so the car can position me and all that - and if I forget to take my Bluetooth iPhone with me. So really only for occasional use and if I've not got it switched to the internal phone, I'll never get the SMS warning from them to tell me it is gong to expire!

Still worth a call to them as I don't like letting it go without a bit of grief.

It was a good few years ago, but I was nearing the end of my contract and they disabled full access to my acount and wanted to charge me to supply a list of my account transactions. I disagreed and they lost

Vodafone Spain do the same here for non-contract SIMs - either for non-use, or for not making a top-up for two months plus, irrespective of how much credit lurks there. Service is suspended (but not for emergency calls) until a top-up is done; €10 will suffice.

Last time this happened (with €45 still on the phone) I went into one of their shops, and complained. Within minutes, they had reinstated the service, and with the credit fully intact. I just took the line that, as a long-standing customer (who also has another contract phone with them) this just wasn't acceptable. They didn't argue.

I've just come off the chat with 'miguel' and I have to dig up a credit card statement showing the credit is on there and then take the SIM to the store - not going to happen as I can't remember which of the 7 cards I used now and they don't keep statements older then 12 months and I can't see anything on there so must of been 2017 I last topped it up!

To be honest they should have my details from the days when I had a monthly account, as I had an iPad 3G SIM attached and a monthly account as well as the carphone PAYG. They also have told me that they know what was on the account, but as the number is now not allocated, I have to prove the top ups.

Not really going to happen, as it will cost me £20 odd to order historical statements and that could be several times over as I don't know which cards I used! :-D

So I will just get another Three SIM for the car as they NEVER expire for anyone reading this!

Wow i must drink beer again before i post a random thought, seems it runs and gets people thinking :)

Quick answer for Marc you are correct on the Three PAYG providing it is not a bundle payment, a £5 or other top up does not expire, though the hassle i have had with them over a replacement sim will require a whole new thread.

As i understand it Tesla have been running an electric car for the last 2 years in America doing a round trip of 140 miles a day, they have been rapid charging the batteries as apposed to normal charging and after 2 years the batteries have 85% capacity left. It took me a while to get my head around it but just because it has lost 15% of its capacity it is not useless...
It/they may not be fit for purpose in the vehicle they were originally fitted to, say a 1.5 tonne ( 1500kg ) vehicle as they would start to lose capacity quicker once they get to a tipping point, but you could remove them and fit them into a lighter vehicle and they would still be fit for purpose before they get to the tipping point.
So by putting used batteries into smaller vehicles they can be re used and that is logical in terms of business, ecologically and most importantly consumer led priorities.
I apologies for not quoting the person who posted the SMMT info about the Fiesta being #1 yet again and asking where is the Electric Fiesta, it is there, well a version of the Fiesta, but it will not be seen until the £ spent on the current model has been recouped.
The bigger issue is that as and when the technology is taken up by the masses the infrastructure is not in place to sustain it, and IMHO that is a big reason why more pure electric vehicles are not already on the market, along with the fact that OPEC has a greater say than we think.
Any how i will keep my Xantia on the road for as long as i can, its a diesel and i love it

My pay as you go Vodafone is little used, I get the occasional "Use it or the account will be closed." message, I dial my landline number but don't pick up and all is well again for at least another 90 days. I doubt my spend is £10 a year.

Yes, unfortunately as the SIM is in the car, and it auto connects to my bluetooth phone when I get in the car, I never get the message unless I manually switch phones - which I have no reason to do unless I forget my iPhone Gibbo, so unless I remember to do that I'll never see the message.

If you have a curiosity for the electric vehicle, the FCF has a wealth of information, and good debate on the subject over a number of threads. My interest started off with some interesing conversions of classic cars, but
there is a wealth of good info from many contributors.
