You'll need to pop up the VIN (it will be automatically masked) so we can tell exact specs, as there are several gearbox options, fully Auto and Piloted manual.

Thanks Mark

The vin plate reads like this
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Hope this is what you require

So you have a C3 II 5 DOOR SALOON 1.6 i 16v 110 (TU5JP4) 4-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX. This has the AL4 fully automatic gearbox.

I really need the actual fault code - which won't be displayed on the car's multi function display; it will need to be read by somebody with a Lexia diagnostic tool ideally, but a code reader should provide some basic codes if you don't have access to a Lexia.

It is extremely possible that this is related to the electrovalves in the hydraulic block of the gearbox. Depending on the problem (which you appreciate I can't diagnose further without an exact code (s), it could entail replacement of the electrovalves.

Thanks Mark

I will have to wait until it reocurse as it was erased when he read it the other day but if you don't mind when it does it next time I will get it read & let you know by the way the car has only done 30k with full service history
thanks

Ok, that would be useful - any and all fault codes will help.

Sometimes you can get away with a gearbox oil change as these are not actually 'sealed for life' as is claimed and needed for peak performance and longevity. The oil can become burned through over heating and this affects performance and is done by many Auto owners here.

It may still not help with the original fault, but poor condition of the gearbox oil can lead to other faults - especially in the valve block.
