Laser coolant tester.

Post by seanrx »

Merry Xmas gents.
Am here at work arguing with a Seat owner.
For him 5 discs floating is perfect.
For me 1 disc floating is perfect.
We've all read the instructions ( six welders and a secretary) so much we've all turned dyslexic!

So, 5 discs good, or 1 disc good?

Don't ask us to read the packaging, its getting stressful here.

Depends on the model - 5 discs is good for anything to -34 -37 °C. Have a look at this - can't see what model you have though...

Well, like in the vid, Seat boy has 5, but that's almost 6 and unsafe I say. Why be so close to failure?
His/my tester is just like in the vid.

I suppose it depends where you live and how cold it gets, but generally, Opie Oils state:
Most commercial antifreeze formulations include a glycol (to suppress the freezing point and raise the boiling point), corrosion inhibiting compounds and a coloured dye (commonly orange, green, red, or blue fluorescent) to aid in identification (although manufacturer's can dye it any colour they choose). A 1:1 dilution with water is usually used, resulting in a freezing point in the range of minus 37 °C to minus 42 °C, depending on the formulation
So I would expect the 5 discs to show this level of protection.

Well, Yahoo answers was also discovered.
All discs sink, pure water.
All float, pure antifreeze.
We are both correct! Both one shy of failure.
But seriously, why can't the packaging tell us what is correct, instead of a guide to understand readings?
Its taken me 90 minutes for an answer.
And Seat boy, hope you break down on the way to Carlisle!
