We've had some of the heaviest rain for years here, a couple of weeks ago.
This lump of rock fell on the N340 coast road west of Nerja, in the Punta Lara area.
No-one was hurt, but the road was closed for over a week while the rock was broken up and removed.
On a cheerier note - and impressive (UK take note), some local two-lane main road through Algarrobo had its tarmac renewed last week – a 1km in length, including a couple of roundabouts, through a built-up and commercial area. Nothing special there, but it was the speed of the operation that was impressive:
- Day 1: old tarmac machine-nibbled and removed down to a depth of 8cm or so, and roughed up
- Day 2: sections coated with bitumen adhesive, new tarmac, and rolled smooth
- Day 3: white lines and roadmarkings repainted, and whole area left clean.
The most impressive bit was that the road was at no point closed, and the new tarmac stretches match the old in level almost precisely. A small fleet of machines and men kept busy non-stop.
Even better, the long and elevated speed bumps (some carrying pedestrian crossings) are now a lot less high then they were before, because these were not resurfaced!
