Heat (to melt the solder) and a small pair of tweezers to replace the component should work.

That’ll be the microswitch I think I mentioned, which can become either worn or can come away from the bird due to use or being dropped over time.

You should be able to pick up a spare case and transplant the bits in. Some will come with a new blade ready to be cut. Getting the old blade into the new case can be really fiddly, depends on type.

Micro switches are generally available, but if course need soldering on, so may be better to get a new fob if your soldering skills are not up to much 😀

Hi Marc!

Thanks for taking the trouble to investigate.

The ebay one (649088) looks exactly like mine, but then again I didn't notice the displaced chip on the circuit board when I first looked

Then, when I look up the other part number 9170S7, you're right - it looks the same too!

I guess that the first step is to see if I can get the circuit board repaired.

If not, I'll have to buy another fob and have it programmed.

Many thanks again!

Ok, so there are 2 part numbers - 649088.
Now this is 82.72 inc VAT from Citroen for the new fob, but with uncut key. Programming will need to be done using Lexia though.

9170S7 is the part number for the other one that may or may not be cut but is £114.85. Citroen will be able to tell you what the exact differences are.

there's one here (in genuine Citroen packing) for £50 - but will need programming and the blade cutting, unless you can transfer the blade from your old one.

You will need to find someone that can code these to the car though - Citroen will do this for a charge if you can't find anyone with a Lexia to do it. You will need to code both keys (your spare fob) too, as ALL keys must be coded together int he same session or any that are not will be locked out.

Gosh!

You guys are up early and constantly on duty! Thanks!

I'll give it to my son to see if his electronics teacher can help...

Thanks again. It's been raining heavily since yesterday and I'm very happy to have one of the fobs working again.

All best wishes

That looks like a resistor and should be easy enough for someone with decent soldering skills to replace.
