Want to feel even older? Take a look at what I just found :

https://tranio.com/articles/how-self-dr ... rket_5386/ The property market is to change massively because of self driving cars... That sounds like a random company article at first, but think a little bit about the implications: if this changes, it means that these cars will become the norm, that many of our habits (commuting, going on holidays, buying groceries, etc) will radically change as well!

Okay, on one hand, we're reaching the year 2000 we read about in comics, but on the other hand, it makes you feel you belong in the previous century

I've had a couple of those 'You Know You're Old When' moments while shopping recently.

One was reading the track listing for a Karaoke disc: I was nearly halfway through before I worked out which Column was the Artist, and which the name of the track

The other was in Currys while browsing Sound Bars, the female assistant gave me a funny look when my response to it being Wireless was "what's wrong with wires"

Also.... saw this and thought of Jim, I did have a look for a Copyright date, but couldn't find one. Clearly very old (almost as old as me perhaps!).

WTF is a Sound Bar? A place to purchase and consume intoxicating music?

If that’s a real question Jim :-D ....
I think they were originally designed with smart TVs in mind. As they became thinner or curvier and flatter the sound output obviously was very tinny and only so much could be accomplished.

The sound bar is basically made up of one or more speakers in a bar shape designed to be wall mounted or laid under smart TV so it doesn’t look too out of place. It has a range of connectivity such as HDMI, Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary in, and optical interfaces. Most of them also come with a subwoofer that can be stored somewhere out of sight.

They provide a good way of amplifying sound from not just smart TVs, but also other devices like your phones, tablets or any other device that can connect to enhance the sound quality.

They vary in quality and capability, but many provide a way to enhance the sound by providing special effects, or 3-D sound output effects and the like.

My smart TV in the lounge is connected to my home theatre system, but the smart TV in the other room isn’t, so I have a sound bar which works brilliantly. As a matter of fact I also have an optical connection from my PC, so that all the sound effects are greatly enhanced and amplified, or when I’m watching a movie or a Blu-ray I can get good quality sound without having to use another home theatre system. It can also down mix 5.1 channel to 2.1 channel sound quite well.

Thanks Marc :) Yes, it was a real question!!!

I don't watch TV or have a TV so all this truly is an education to me... My last TV was far from flat... In fact it was about three feet deep and took two just to lift it... Zel will confirm this when we took it to the dump

I hope they don't Peter... You've all earned it!

No way I can justify throwing £150 or whatever it is now toward something I never use...

That will buy and awful lot of coffee and cake during my bike ride cafe stops

re the Tour de France LP, Jim; if its there when I'm there next I'll get it for you and sent it your way (no charge). Its not somewhere I visit frequently, being a wee journey from me; so failing that if anyone else is in or passing Newbury, its in 'Save the Children' there, at what I call the 'MDC' [Motorist Discount Centre] end of of town, near the Kennet Centre, useful shop.

'Feat' is a shortening of 'Featuring', ie with a usually famous Artist joining the main artist, sort of what we'd've called a Duet back in my day.

Congrats on the family nuptials by the way :-D

Famous? Pfah! Famous in their own minds, perhaps.

Can you give me the details? I should be in Newbury this coming Tuesday, and it won't be a long walk from the launderette to the Kennet Centre.

Thanks, that's very much appreciated :D and tanks for explaining 'Feat.' too! I much prefer duet but I guess the youngsters find that quaint now!

I got it! It is Volume 2, so it is quiet. Volume 1 requires specialist audio equipment just to hear it, while Volume 10 blew the speakers the moment the needle hit the record!

Oh well another thread that goes off at a tangent so as the OP i think i can take it off on a another direction, slightly back on track :)
8 days ago i bought a C5 X7 from my son, and he bought a Vauxhall Astra 2013 for £4k, now nothing odd there, except that as i knew it was going to happen i originally posted an ad in the for sale section for a C4 to try and reduce our vehicle count back to 3.
I have since removed that ad as the Xantia sprang a leak and decided i needed to keep the C4 until i could get a replacement part for the Xantia, so no worries everything in hand.
Saturday 2nd November sons new car was purchased, we bought his C5 X7, Xantia off road so 4 cars in the driveway designed for 2, then Wednesday 6th son gets involved in a RTA, he is okay, got shunted and car is possible write off,so he gets courtesy car on Friday, going to collect damaged car on Monday so now we have 5 bleedin cars on a 2 car driveway and if its a write off he is gonna buy the C4 off us and it was his first car that i use as a daily driver, the one i was gonna sell.
Getting old helps me remember the good old days when you bought a car and ran it till it fell apart
