C5 X7 Valeo wiper blades - wrong way around?

Post by jbbu »

So today I popped down to ECP to pick up a set of wiper blades. I purchased Valeo VM421 (574359) which are supposed to be appropriate for the RHD X7 (and Zafira Bs). Unlike my previous pair of Bosch wipers, these have asymmetric clips and one side of the clip has a triangular boss moulded in which matches up with a cutoff on one corner of the wiper arm.

HOWEVER, these appeared to be the wrong way around for my car and I had to press out the metal pins holding the clips to the blades, and swap the clips.

I want to check if this is a factory mess-up by Valeo or Citroen, or indeed some user error on my part! The longer wiper goes on the driver (right) side, correct? The aerodynamic spoilers on the wipers appear to be in the correct orientation as well, i.e. pointy end of the 'wedge' pointing in the direction of travel. Valeo logos are also the correct way around.

Any ideas?

The long wiper blade is for the right side (driver's side) on a RHD vehicle.

To be honest, get a Citroen one, they are far superior - all the others I've used are useless and the genuine ones actually cost less in some cases! And as for ECP - say no more.

I do know that citronut slightly re-worked what ECP stood for, and ended up with Euro Crap Parts! I have heard of people who, on buying an item and getting it home, have found a used/faulty item instead of a nice new shiny one, and ECP have not then understood the concept of customer service. However, citronut did extensively use GSF.

£47 for the pair though, or £54 should you choose to buy them as a set rather than individually!

Having said that there's also the £39 fixed price service for front wiper blades with OE parts.

Also Valeo are OE, aren't they? The blades look good quality at least.

While I do not doubt that Valeo are an OEM supplier, ECP has a far lower level of trustworthiness.

Not necessarily Valeo - you will find that they are Citroen branded, but I can't recall the manufacturer now - but I can say that they simply work and don't squeak. Yes - fixed price repairs is the way to go - and a tip - always give the windscreen a full de-gunge first with some RainX pre-cleaner then a RainX treatment if you can - that will stop any build up of crap getting onto your new wiper blades.
