It has the electric steering unit fitted directly onto the rack Mike:

No connection to engine - directly connected to battery, type DAE

I imagine that the electric steering rack also has a position sensor for weighting the steering according to angle et, can this be interrogated via diagbox?

The torque and position sensor is incorporated into the unit itself - so the Op would have to see if Diagbox shows separate ECU or not.

Hi Givemeabreak, I should have my own Lexia diag tool tomorrow, you previously said there were ' some points of note if fitting a replacement Comms unit, that I will put up later' i would appreciate your comments please?

I have a couple of other things that need some maintenance and looking to pass this car on now and would love to remove the warning message.

Am looking at a DS5 now so if you have any tips to look out for this will be much appreciated? Thank you in advance Chris

A month ago on the forum seems like a lifetime and I can't remember my train of thought back then concerning that :rofl2:

Good news on the Diagnostic tool front. Best thing to do is to run a Global Test first, check all the faults and list them here before doing anything else. Then read and then clear the faults, then run another Global Test to see which ones are remaining.

Then we can see what is what and take it from there.

Running the calibration on the steering angle sensor produced this error - ' Communications Fault' problem terminally solved by passing onto webuyanycar.com and purchasing a DS5 :)

This fault appeared when I disconnected a faulty blower controller on my C4 Cactus. The fault wasn't showing using OBD diagnostics (neither was the faulty blower controller).
The ABS/ESP fault disappeared after connecting the new blower controller.
It just goes to show that faults aren't necessarily where they're saying they are. Someone coming across my ABS/ESP fault could have been led on an expensive wild goose chase, without knowing what else was wrong.

That's why you need a to take ALL and any fault codes into consideration and use a proprietary diagnostic tool like Diagbox that can read the bespoke constructor codes that a lot of aftermarket systems cannot. A lot of the systems on modern multiplexed vehicles are interconnected and therefore can produce 'fault' codes for associated devices where there is nothing wrong with said devices. These are usually communication faults on the networks and may take some specialist knowledge / tools to troubleshoot CAN faults.
