Weird autoheadlight behaviour Citroën C4
Hi everyone.
Well recently I experienced something weird with my 2005 Citroën C4 VTS coupe. She has xenon headlights. I got hold of a PSA com diagnostic unit and perfomed a diagnostic test. I got no fault codes but changed a few settings. I activated the display function onthe dash so when I put the car in reverse it shows the car and how far the obstacle is. Which is quite nifty. There is a load of settings etc. it worked and I was happy.
Next I noticed my headlights (xenon) aswell as the rear lights parklights front and back and dash lights flicker rapidly when the stalk is in auto headlight mode (it was dark and they switched on). Switched stalk to off position and it still flickered. turned stalk to ‘on’ position and all was normal. Back to auto and it flickered. Im stumped as to why.
I thought is was battery and had it tested. They say it is good but could use a bit of a charge which I did. I know that our cits can’t stand a slightly flat battery. To be honest I did notice the starter was a bit slow at turning over and the econo mode comes in rather quickly... Just reinstalled the battery after about 5hours charge as it was at around 60% charged according to the charger. Starter turned over much quicker but it is still not dark enough for headlights so automatically turn on. Do you guys think I might have done something wrong in my searches for the function I switched on or could it be the battery. Actually lost sleep about it last night
Anyone ever experienced this? I noticed there is a function to re initialize the rain/light sensor but haven’t done it. Just saw it...
Any pointers?
Regards
Corne

Re: Weird autoheadlight behaviour Citroën C4
Yes, very likely you have changed some settings that you should not of.
The options that are available in the BSI should already have been activated and appropriate to your car at the factory with the options you have. There really should be no need to change anything. You need to realise that the same BSIs are shared across the PSA vehicle and model range and therefore there are distinct differences between these models and certain options that are not intended to be active on certain vehicles.
This also applies to options fitted - different head units and displays provide different ways of displaying car functions and data - changing a setting here can basically make your car inoperative or cause serious problems.
We have a warning in the Diagnostics section about making changes and recording what you do as there is NO undo option.

Post up your vehicle VIN so I can recall the options fitted to your car and I will try and provide you with the correct configuration parameters. It would also help if you provided as much information as to what you think you changed.

Guess I did change something then. I did check out the different functions etc to familiarize myself. But stupidness is oart of the package so here I am.
My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I will go through the diagnostic program and see which settings I might have changed. And report back

Re: Weird autoheadlight behaviour Citroën C4
Ok. I went through it all. Think I played around too much previously but what I can remember for a fact is that I changed the reverse assistance from just audible to visual aswell. I changed it back. I activated the rearview mirror tilt function but deactivated it again.
Presence of welcome function of driver was no. I changed to yes. But changed back to no.
I did have one faultcode F034. Absence of communication with alarm ecu. But after careful checking seems I switched off the function. After switching it back on the code did not return.
I did switch on the auto dimming of the dash lights depending on outside brightness which dimmed the speedo dashlights. But I deactivated the function.
Other than that I cannot remeber any changes..

Re: Weird autoheadlight behaviour Citroën C4
Hi Marc
Thanks. I will try again but if I have to do it manually. Should I put car in low position. Disconnect the battery? Then open bleed nipple? Will there be any issues once I have it all back and start het and switch back to normal height? Will the pump prime? I do have LDS to top up.

Corne - I've split this into a new topic to keep the issues separate, so any suspension issues, please reply in the other thread below:
