Puegot 207 airbag warning passenger side 0604

Post by Ajohnston93 »

Hi guys I’m getting problems with my airbag apparently from the passenger side. My airbag light won’t go off!

My error code was something like this “0604 fault on the passenger airbag igniter level 2” I’m sure it may have said open circuit but maybe not! I can’t remember fully the 0604 is correct but have asked the guy with the diagnosic kit to send it to me at some point.

My seatbelt sensor also doesn’t work for the passenger side or seat behind the passengers seat I don’t know if this is related.

I have fully striped the wires on the passenger seat and cannot see any visible damage. I also moved the passenger seat over and plugged it into the drivers side connections and the seat belt sensor didn’t work from drivers side so I’m guessing it’s wiring within the seat faulty.

My friend also continuity tested them when fully disconnecting the wiring loom with no issue but the way the wires were sitting the break could of been touching. I was thinking about wiring in a resistor to pass it’s MOT then getting a second hand seat from the local scrap yard.

Does anyone know what resistor I would stick in and if it would go between the 2 cables leading the airbag I take it ? I’ve read 2.2 and 3.3 ohms so don’t want to wire the wrong one and end up with crash data or something.
Thanks guys, looks forward to hearing some ideas!

Hi and welcome.

The common problem with these is the wiring under the passenger seat carpet - that's where the wires are prone to breaking. I would focus there first as it is unlikely to be in the seats.

Are you talking about the wiring coming from the floor that runs under the carpet? How would I go about testing this for a break using a voltage checker or ripping the carpet out and checking by hand? Thanks for your reply

I thought the fact I moved the passenger seat over and plugged into the drivers side and it still said the seatbelt was plugged in suggested that it was something wrong with the wiring under/in/attached to the seat. As the seatbelt plugged in “breaks” the connections. Thanks for your time

9604: Fault on passenger’s airbag level 2 present but not configured: Coherence fault

Post up your VIN and I'll see what the circuit diagram says. Always disconnect the battery earth and don't let it reconnect and don't use an ohmmeter or any other current generating source on the trigger, and nothing greater than 16V.

On this model only the front passenger seat has a pad to detect if there is a passenger or not for the front seat belt warning.

Thank you so much for your help, eh I think I’ll pass testing it then don’t want to fry the ecu or something lol. My vin is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I may actually attempt to plug the drivers seat into the passenger side and see if that removes the seatbelt issue then will know it’s not under carpet wires (if that’s related to the airbag) (if it’s the wires). I was originally just going to go with the resistor trick till I can get to local scrappy (open when I’m at work) as the passengers seat barely gets used but I have since read that getting your MOT they will visually inspect the wiring (probally lies). Again thanks for your time !

Just to repeat - as I updated my last post:
On this model only the front passenger seat has a pad to detect if there is a passenger or not for the front seat belt warning. So I wouldn't recommend crossing these over and making cross connections at all - really not recommended.

I'll take a look now I have your VIN.

Ok, so here is the wiring diagram for your car.

Most of the codes are in the Wiki here in number order to help along with the symbology. The 'V' as in 2VBE basically means number of pins, followed by the colour in french. So for 6575, the 2VBE means 2 pin Blue. NR = Noir or Black and so forth.

The main Airbag and Pre-tensioner Unit is 6570

6564 being the passenger system what colour would NR be ?, makes sense as there is 5 wires going into the clip below the seat although I can’t find anything matching with the codes of these wires in the wiki page you linked. They just seem to be missing, to be fair that wiring diagram is a bit out of my depth wire coming from 6564 passenger side don’t seem to be listed. Thanks for your patience and time

6564 is the Passenger's Airbag Module and that is a 5 pin BLACK plug connection.

The wiring codes aren't listed, but the equipment and ECUs are - but anything you need just shout - as for the wires on 6564:
6502 : Passenger's air bag 1 control 1
6503 : Passenger's air bag 1 control 1
MC656 : earth mc65
6504 : Passenger's air bag 2 control 2
6505 : Passenger's air bag 2 control 2

So the Airbag ECU is hidden behind the central console, but I would locate the wiring under the carpet of the passenger seat and check these for breaks. Hopefully you'll find it in that area and be able to affect a repair.

Perfect thanks a lot, I am going to examine over the cables at the weekend as the weather is bad here the now and can get into friends garage at that time. Thanks so much for your help I wouldn’t have even thought to check the wires going below the carpet !

I am going to continuity test from the air bag control unit to the connector at the other end now I know the wire numbers to check for breaks instead of ripping the carpet up, will this work?

Disconnect the battery of course and wait 10 minutes for capacitors to discharge before doing anything with the wires, but the carpet should come away as it should only be tucked up under the sill and centre console trim. Just try that first.
