The rack? Personally I got my local garage to do it - as the the power steering pipes have to come off and the seals replaced, and it's a lot easier with a lift! I can't remember now if the subframe had to be dropped to get the rack in - you have the metallic suspension so have a separate smaller LDS reservoir for the power steering.

The steering gear will need to be detached and if you are going to have a rubber boot mod done it will be a lot easier to do with all the tools at the garage unless you've got a good setup! I had my timing belt, with tensioner pulleys and new water pump done at the same time and the Anti Roll Bar links while the car was on the lift - so that saved a lot of labour.

I have a lift and all the tools, but dont have a clue of where I have to start, take down exhaust pipe from the manifold and then the subframe have to be renoved, after that will it be easy to access the rack from underneath.

Don't just change it out hand. Twice now I've been on the point of fitting a replacement and simply(!) removing the unit, unplugging it from the loom and then refitting it has brought the heater blower back to life. Last time was about February and it's still working.

It makes me wonder how many are changed needlessly and charged for accordingly.

Yes - good advice from Paul ^ - always worth checking first, although on a Left Hand Drive model a bit more fiddly to get to.

I replaced my own steering rack about 18 months ago.
More details on how to do it here ----> viewtopic.php?f=3&t=57734

Perfect, then I will take it out. And then refit it and see if I save some money or not.

So you disconnected the connector - did you turn the control module in the right direction? I think it shows clockwise or right to left.

There's no other way to get it out - but there are no screws.

It looks like it was clockwise, I tried everything, even broke a little part of the ressistor.

It's anti-clockwise IIRC. About a 1/4 of a revolution. And it will eventually come. If you can disconnect the wiring plug first that makes it easier to grasp the top part. In fact, if you can disconnect the plug do that a couple of times and see if that solves the problem.

So I have to turn it to the lett when im looking at it straight?
Tried to pull out the cable a few times, but it wouldnt come out.
But the ressistor was looking very rusty, so I think it has to be changed anyways

The plug isn't easy to remove as you have to depress a little plastic tab on the plug and it's something I could only do once I had unscrewed the complete assembly! Anti-clockwise is the left hand side of the assembly going downwards just like unscrewing a bottle top.

I'm curious about you saying it needs replacing because it's rusty as you can't see most of it. I'm wondering what you're really looking at and whether you're trying to undo the wrong thing.

Hi, that’s not the part number. It could be a manufacturer number. Use the one I gave you (6441S7), because that is the official Citroen one direct from their live database and is the same as the dealer will give you.

But again a warning, try not to go for a cheap one, as the quality can be quite poor on these.

Try and go for a HELLA branded one, which will be better quality and about £38 UK Mark, but still a lot cheaper than the original. Just use the part number I gave you for searching.
