2014 Relay indicator problem.

Post by LittleOldSuzi »

Our 2014 Citroen Relay dashboard keeps complaining about a bulb fault on both the left and right hand side of the van when you put the indicators on. Both front, mirror and rear bulbs are all working fine and are nice and bright. I have changed the 4 bulbs on the corners anyway (not the mirror bulbs yet) and this made no difference. There are 2 earths by the tail lights and I have removed, cleaned and reattached them as well.

Do we have current sensing inside the indicator relay or what could it be?

Thanks all....

I would be inclined to give the various contacts in the holders a good cleaning. It could be that they have got a little dirty, and the increased resistance is confusing the diagnostic circuit. Hake sure (if you are cleaning the contacts) you use a proper contact cleaner, and not something like WD40.

Stripped it again today cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner and also soldered an extra earth inside the fitting and attached it with a crimp ring to the same bolt as the normal earth points (did both sides). As before the indicators work perfectly but the dash complains. Where is the diagnostic circuit on these vans? Thanks.

Did this start happening recently, or is the van new to you?

Does the van have tow bar electrics fitted?

If you have fitted LEd's that could be the problem but Xantia _v6 does also have a point

The van is new to me so an existing issue.

The bulbs are not LED, there is no sign that a tow bar was fitted and the only electrics that go below the rear lights is the parking sensor cable on the passenger side and I think that is where the tow bar electrics would go from.

Just an update for the benefit of anyone that has this problem. Every online store I can find list the mirror indicators as 5w bulbs but they are not, they 16w bulbs. The correct bulbs are WY16W and fit 2 of them and the bulb error goes away. I believe the standard vans are actually 5w but L2 and bigger use larger 16w bulbs and the Body Computer monitors them.
