That was always my choice Zel :) I reckon an Activa in that colour would look positively gorgeous...

Ferrari Red would look good too but the Saxo colour just pips it ;)

It's got to be something bright I think, the slightly more aggressive stance of it compared to a "regular" Xantia just needs that.

I have to admit that there's temptation to the polychromatic paint like was used on CGAT, but I'm not totally convinced it would work as well on a Xantia as a CX, plus don't have the odd seven grand or so it would probably cost! Being honest though I'd probably not be expecting change from three or four even for a solid colour...

It definitely has to be bright. My daily Leon is white as is quite a lot of cars round about here, and there are also loads of vag cars here and at least 50%of them are white so it is inconspicuous and I can hide in full view in it. I want the xantia to make folk look and wonder what the hell is that! There will be no badges on it either

:rofl2:

Agreed it needs to be bright! All cars should, by law, be painted in bright colours... I hate dull cars...

Have to admit that thinking about it, the black my 107 was in would suit a Xantia. Loved the paint on that because it was downright beautiful in direct sunlight up close, the metallic portion was a vivid mix covering the whole rainbow.

Problem from a respray perspective though is that it would be very sensitive a colour to the finish.

The black 107 is great when properly clean and polished. They really pop in bright sunlight. I really liked it.

I assume you're was the Raven Black metallic as well, Davie?

I was really surprised at the quality of the finish it took after a bit of proper detailing given it was a pretty cheap car. The depth to it and general finish was top notch. Far better than the bloody orange peely mess on Chris' last three company cars...the latest a £40K Audi...which has worse paint than my Lada. Flipping shocking. The Golf R Estate was at least four colours of blue - though that was about the closest thing to a redeeming feature that car had. That's one that's on a pretty small list of cars that I actively hated.

Granted...The Activa's sunburn doesn't really do it any favours. I think if nothing else I *need* to pull the grill off and respray it as the bubble right next to the badge is the first thing your eye is drawn to on the face of the car.

Yes Zel, it was raven black. When the sun was on it I thought it had a purple sort of hue, as if it had pink/purple metal flake through it. As far as I know Shaun still has not got it running after replacing the engine. I despair of my son sometimes. I have not seen or heard of him for weeks now.

I seem to recall the Raven Black had a purple tint to the top coat (kinda like on Dante Red) which gives the sort of purple highlights. The flakes looking up close seemed to be a pretty even mix of green, gold and red on mine.

Shame mine spent to much time looking grey rather than black!

Today I put a new battery in the 407. Well not entirely new but a known good one out of gabby which wasnt very old when I bought her a year ago. It is the correct rated one forbthe 407. It has had no battery at all in it for a couple of months. Could it be that a hibernation could reset everything and it worked? NO. I did get it started so that is encouraging, but it was only about 3 out of 6 cylinders by the sound of it. Sounded like a bucket of bolts and wouldnt rev over 1500 revs, and smokey exhaust. I was goimg to try interrogating it again but something came up. Its a atart!

Sorry to hear a good rest has not revived the 407 Davie :( It sounds as if it is even sicker now than before...

Fingers crossed it's not big issues....
