It very MX5 - & I'm not sure that's a manufacturer's badge, some tuning firm perhaps, like Arbarth, Brabus, Alpina, etc who rebadge the cars they modify.

Both Correct! wiki tells us "Eunos was a marque of Japanese automaker Mazda, marketed as its upscale, fun to drive line in its home market." Mk1 MX5 imported from Japan.

Heres one on Gumtree with a background of the Scotswood Bridge

I walked past this the other day and did a double-take.

It is well out of place and time, here in New Zealand...

Possibly never built in RHD in this format, but the car it was based on certainly was.

Owes something to the C15. Interesting little cubby-hole in the side.

I think you nailled it (I had not actually checked which model of Simca). Nothing wrong with your powers of recollection.

I suspect that is actually the same example, both on NZ plates, but it has been re-registered. In NZ if the rego (road tax) lapses without being put on hold, the vehicle must be re-registered and gets a new number.

The very same van also appears on Wiki described as a 1979 Simca VF2 with the VF standing for "Voiture Fourgonnette". The VF1**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] was a low-roof van, VF2 high roof, and VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] very high roof apparently. (now that's funny FCF does strange things when you use the characters V F 3 in a post :-D )

That is true, it looks too much like a Peugeot VIN, (rather than a Simca van).

For lovers of trivia, that photo was taken outside the old Canterbury university where the cheese vendor had a permanent shop. The stone buildings were badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake, and I presume that photo was taken near the end of restoration of that building in about 2016 (or perhaps there were pre-earthquake repairs going on in that photo). The cheese vendor later moved out of the shop and now just operates at one or two weekly markets, at one of which I photographed his van.

They did one as a Rancho, Simca and Talbot badged.

Remember the Rancho (Talbot-Matra-Simca, 1977-). Poor man's Disco (1989-), and maybe the inspiration for it.

See that all those Simca 1100's (V F 3) had the little hatch in the side. What was it for?

You'd have to ask a man that owns one.

Saw a Rancho quite recently (Manchester Classic Car Show?) - had completely forgotten about them. (can't think why )

That C15 style (if there can be such a thing) of car cut off behind B-pillars & box grafted on goes back to the 2CV & with the singular exception of the Morris 1/4 ton (neé Minor)* seems to be peculiarly French/Italian/Spanish - although there may have been a pre-war Opel (but they had some sort of link with Peugeot/Simca at the time, it seems).

* whoops, of course I forgot about the Standard 10/Pennant

No, my long-term memory remains good... It's my short-term and working memory that's failed...
