C2 cranks but no start
Hi I have a few questions if anyone can help.
i have a c2 cranks but no start, I bought it like this
I have a fault code 04BA Transponder ( without hands free starting)or badge(with hand free starting not characterized -local
If I go in to live Data, I have no rpm signal when cranking, If it is immobilized would that stop you getting a rpm signal in live data?.
Iv only just started on this car, so I will report any findings.

Re: C2 cranks but no start
The engine turning without starting is a classic transponder fault. Obviously I’ve assumed you didn’t drive it back from wherever you bought it?
Have you tried pairing the transponder to the car yet?
Make sure you have waited 5 minutes minimum from the last time you tried to start it, then put the key in the ignition, ignition in only, don’t crank, then press the lock button on the bulb for 5 seconds, switch off ignition, repeat with next fob, then try and start it,
Another possibility is that somebody has replaced the key fob without transplanting the transponder chip from the original fob in which case it will never start,
If you have access to Lexia / Diagbox, try pairing the keys again, it you will need the confidential code to do this.
Other reasons could be a previous non-matched engine ECU or BSI replacement.

Re: C2 cranks but no start
Hi Marc, The key could be the problem, it was falling apart and the lock and unlock buttons do not work, I have lexia, I am not really up to speed with it. I have some other strange things going on , The side lights are all the time, the electric windows work only sometimes. I have mil light, battery and few others on the dash but the speedo does not light up. so i was thinking one of the multi control control modules is playing up.
where do you get the confidential code code from if you dont have it.
I think I need to try and get this key working first
also I am going to see what is working and not working on the wiring diagram, power to fuses and what relays are activating to get a good picture of what is going on.
I have been told that theses multi control modules play up all the time.
Thanks for the help

I have fuel pressure
I just put a noid light on the injector and one flash only
Still testing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

You say it was falling apart. Was anything done to fix it?

Ok that’s a different story now with all that information!
That code along with issues, but specifically thensidelights on all the time tells me the BSI module has gone into a backup mode.
Post your VIN so I can determine exact vehicle and options.

Yes, no problem, you have a 2007 model C2 3 Door Saloon 1.1i 60 (TU1A) Manual gearbox 5. Built 2/7/2007.

Re: C2 cranks but no start
yep thats the one, all earths on the ecu are good.
fuse 13 and 9 are live
fuse 5 and 10 are dead but I am thinking this may be live when cranking as I have fuel pressure.

Re: C2 cranks but no start
BSI Fuses (Passenger Glovebox):
Fuse F13 - 5 Amp, (ABS ECU relay - Engine Compartment Fusebox Panel - Piloted Manual Gearbox Gear Selector - Brake Dual-function Switch)
Fuse F9 - 30 Amp, Cigar Lighter
Fuse F5 - FREE
Fuse F10 15 Amp, Alarm Siren
Can't see any other fuses with these numbers...
Have you checked the log history? what sort of faults have you had recorded and check these against the vehicle mileage to determine how recent they were.
Can you list the fault codes you had recorded there for a clue.
Unfortunately as this looks like an inherited problem, and without knowing the history it's going to take a bit of trouble shooting. Are there any other warning lights on, are any of the exterior lights on apart from the side lights?
It is quite possible the BSI has given up the ghost - these contain a lot of solid state relays - and I've seen some of them burn out and scorch the board (once the 2 halves are separated). So if you have checked all earths, fuses and pins in connectors and are sure the battery is in a good state of charge, then the BSI looks like a good start - are you getting communication with all the ECUs and can you run a Global Test without issues? Are there any other fault codes?

Re: C2 cranks but no start
HI Marc. I have been using my snap on verus as I am used to it a bit more, I will put Lexia on it later this morning and see what it comes up with, I am just that good with the navigation on Lexiam, But there is only one way to learn.
I have 2 keys not in great condition but neither will operate the the central locking?
Ill keep you posted

Re: C2 cranks but no start
Can you be a little more specific? Are you saying pressing the lock or unlock buttons don't work on the fob?
If so, that could also indicate BSI as the information may not be handshaking. As it stands it would almost be akin to a second hand used replacement BSI being put in - so of course will not work with starting, nor recognising the remote fobs and of course the engine ECU won't authorise the start of the vehicle as all 3 have to be a matched set (BSI, Engine ECU & Transponder chips in the remote fob). When you get it on Lexia (which is really essential to get any manufacturer specific codes), and assuming the BSI is talking - check to see if the VIN reported is the same as the one on the car window.

Here we go
F4BA Immobilizer not characterised This is the one that jumps out at me
determinant fault redundant brake switch signal problem
temp fault controlled thermostat signal short to earth or open
permanent fault battery voltage too high
permanent fault controlled alternator control
permanent fault inlet air temperature sensor signal short circuit to + or open circuit
